Job Summary
As a Principal Motion Designer within the Venmo Experience Design (XD) team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of users use the Venmo product. You will partner with your cross-functional peer group to influence strategic Design – from concept to decisions – to ultimately deliver stellar end-to-end experiences across platforms and form factors. Your motion design expertise and prototyping skills will guide early product development, bring greater clarity to engineering goals, adding to moments of delight, thoughtful micro interactions for customer confidence and unlock the power of visual storytelling.
Must Have
- Establish overall business or technical strategy for user experience initiatives.
- Negotiate with and influence decision-making reaching the senior executive level.
- Identify and resolve unique situations of substantial significance in user interface or interaction design.
- Allocate resources, responsibly and apply creativity to enhancing user and customer experiences.
- Lead the development of user experience strategies that resonate with target audiences.
- Support and mentor less-experienced roles to provide an example of innovation, excellence, and day-to-day learning.
- 10-12+ years in a digital design role.
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in motion design, user experience, product design, visual design, research, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in concepting and delivering unique ideas for motion/animation, 3D rendering, and visual design for digital product/app contexts.
- Master of Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and Cinema 4D or Blender, Figma or comparable prototyping tools, Lottie.
- Understands file compression, viewing specifications, and delivery of all media formats.
- Thorough command of the product design lifecycle.
- Mastery in designing and building flexible motion artifacts and guidelines.
- Comprehensive expertise in motion, hierarchy, and interaction design, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Extensive experience in creating visual user interfaces for web or mobile applications.
- Profound understanding of usability principles and their application in designing sophisticated systems.
- A portfolio of exemplary design work is required for consideration, showcasing significant contributions to motion design for design systems and/or brand purposes.
- Proven capability to manage multiple projects and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
- Motion Design leadership - implementing best practices in process and methodology.
- Guide motion design efforts across teams, including strategy, planning, working with cross-functional partners to remove blockers and presenting effectively to senior staff and stakeholders.
- Leverage and extend the use of Design system, style guides, patterns and assets in the creation of design deliverables.
- Composite and render motion graphics to support product needs.
- Work with the product design team to craft UI motion behaviors and animations that orient, guide, and add delight for customers.
- Ensure that all the organization’s output/visuals are consistent with the overall brand and strategic commitments.
- Make design decisions based on research and insights, as well as advocate for continuous learning and inclusive design best practices.
- Collaborate with other cross-functional Design team members (Research, Content Design, Design Operations, Branding) and Business and Engineering stakeholders.

Your qualifications
- 10-12+ years in a digital design role, with a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in motion design, user experience, product design, visual design, research, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in concepting and delivering unique ideas for motion/animation, 3D rendering, and visual design – specifically for digital product/app contexts
- Is a master of Adobe Creative Suite (A"er E!ects, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and Cinema 4D or Blender, Figma or comparable prototyping tools, Lottie as well as emerging interactive design trends.
- Understands file compression, viewing specifications, and delivery of all media formats.
- Exceptional level of craft, taste, and product intuition, with an acute awareness of future trends, emerging technologies, and shifting customer expectations.
- Thorough command of the product design lifecycle with deep, direct experience in all skill areas and tools, including the facilitation of workshops and other collaboration techniques to drive momentum and credibility within the organization.
- Mastery in designing and building flexible motion artifacts and guidelines.
- Demonstrates comprehensive expertise in motion, hierarchy, and interaction design, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Extensive experience in creating visual user interfaces for web or mobile applications.
- Profound understanding of usability principles and their application in designing sophisticated systems.
