Flying Bark Productions seeks an experienced Rigging Artist for their Sydney studio to work on projects like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Stranger Things. Responsibilities encompass creating, revising, and maintaining rigged assets for characters, sets, and props; ensuring assets meet technical and aesthetic standards; providing support and troubleshooting for animators and technical directors; and developing efficient rigging techniques. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of Maya, Python, and MEL, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills. The role offers a hybrid work model with flexible work-from-home options.

Job Description

Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. 


We are looking for a Rigging Artist who can work from our beautiful Sydney studio, who has a passion for storytelling and pushing the envelope with their work.


About the role:

  • Create, revise, maintain and support the required rigged assets, responding to guidance and review notes from the Director/s as well as creative and technical supervisors
  • Ensure that rigged assets meet standards and specifications with respect to appearance and aesthetics, user interface, performance, robustness & technical benchmarks


About you:

  • A thorough understanding of controls and deformation
  • Oversee the characters, set pieces and props rigging through the animation pipeline
  • Provide support to, & troubleshoot for, users (other Technical Directors and Animators) who make use
    of the rigged assets
  • Be an excellent communicator
  • Have up to date and in depth knowledge of Maya, and good knowledge of Python and MEL
  • Be able to develop techniques and processes to solve rigging production challenges.
