Job Summary

At eBay, the TCGplayer Platform (CLIP) team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in backend systems for their marketplace and seller-facing tools. This role involves designing and implementing microservices, datastores, APIs, and event streams using C#, .NET Core, Docker, and Kubernetes in AWS. The engineer will ensure high performance and scalability, collaborate with internal teams for iterative improvements, and decouple systems from an existing monolithic application to enhance seller experience and scale capabilities.

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, or a combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Experience with large-scale microservice application development, including experience with decomposing monolithic applications
  • Experience working with C#
  • Expert knowledge of multiple datastore technologies including both RDBMS (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis)
  • Experience with Kafka, Terraform, Helm, GitHub Actions, and K8s
  • A ship-often mindset and ability to break down requirements into components that can be released rapidly

About the team and the role:

TCGplayer connects hobbyists and hobby businesses to communities. We relentlessly improve the exchange of things and thoughts that fuel passions, providing the most compelling destination and tools for collectible card game enthusiasts and professional sellers! TCGplayer, now a part of eBay, promotes and drives growth of our products and services by connecting a global community of millions of buyers with tens of thousands of retailers in a $25B global collectible hobby market.

This Platform (internally known as CLIP) team at TCGplayer is responsible for important backend systems that power our marketplace and seller-facing tooling. These include inventory, listings, price points, and more. We are doing a lot of greenfield work and are looking to grow the team in order to evolve our systems to align with the latest strategic priorities (it’s all about improving quality of life for sellers on our platform and scaling our existing capabilities).

What you will accomplish:

  • You will help design and implement backend services (including microservices, datastores, APIs, and event streams) that will support our next-generation listings, inventory, and price points systems (we’re using C#, .NET Core, Docker, and Kubernetes in AWS)
  • Ensure that our backend systems are highly performant and scalable to accommodate an ever growing amount of data and load
  • Work closely with internal teams integrating with our backend systems and ship iterative improvements based on their requirements and feedback
  • Further decouple our systems from an existing monolithic application

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, or a combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$115,200 - $199,700

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
