Job Summary
ADGA is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to manage and monitor system performance, develop technical documentation, and provide comprehensive systems support for a defence client's distributed network infrastructure. The role involves maintaining operational readiness, implementing security best practices, automating tasks, and supporting various server and network technologies, including Microsoft and Linux environments, to ensure robust and secure operations for experimentation, training, and C5ISR requirements.
Must Have
- Develop and maintain technical and system documentation, SOPs, and designs.
- Test and monitor systems for operational readiness and vulnerability identification.
- Provide systems administration support for distributed networks and interconnectivity.
- Patch, update, administer, configure, and operate server, network storage, virtualization, and Microsoft/Linux systems.
- Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, access controls, and audit logging.
- Support security incident response activities.
- Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
- Ensure compliance with IT security standards like ITSG-33.
- Minimum 5 years of IT experience.
- Minimum 4 years experience in analyzing, developing, administrating, and implementing system modules within a "System of Systems" environment in the last 6 years.
- Degree or diploma from a Canadian university/college in Science, Engineering, or IT field.

ADGA is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to test and monitor system performance, and to develop and maintain technical and system Concepts of Operations, designs, standard operating procedures, architectural diagrams, and descriptions for activities that use our defence client’s distributed network infrastructure. The Administrator will also be required to provide systems support to the Joint Battle Lab (JBL) / Integrated Test Bed (ITB) for experimentation, training, demonstration, and for C5ISR requirements.
Tasks:
- Develop and maintain technical and system documentation, standard operating procedures, designs, and descriptions for activities that use the CJWC’s distributed infrastructure.
- Test and monitor systems to maintain or improve the operational readiness of the CJWC’s distributed infrastructure and to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective measures.
- Provide systems administration support to the CJWC’s distributed network and any interconnectivity to other national and international networks.
- Maintain and update system maintenance procedures for infrastructure and associated services.
- Patch, update, administer, configure, and operate CJWC systems and infrastructure including:
- Server infrastructure
- Network storage
- System and infrastructure automation
- Virtualization infrastructure
- Virtual desktop infrastructure
- Virtual networking infrastructure
- Microsoft services (Active Directory, file/print server, group policy objects, and other)
- Microsoft Exchange Server (including create user mailboxes and distribution lists, server maintenance)
- Endpoint protection software (e.g., Trellix)
- Windows servers (various versions)
- Linux servers (various distributions)
- Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance for servers and workstations.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, including system hardening, access controls, and audit logging in accordance with departmental and national cybersecurity policies.
- Support security incident response activities, including forensic data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) to automate routine system administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with IT security standards such as ITSG-33, as applicable.
- Configure and maintain system monitoring to proactively detect and resolve issues.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior administrators and technical staff.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions and maintain up-to-date documentation for continuity and onboarding.
- Participate in and support change management processes, including risk assessments, implementation planning, configuration updates, documentation, and post-change reviews in accordance with departmental policies.
- Travel to multiple sites and locations in support of the above-mentioned roles and systems.
Qualifications
- A degree from a Canadian* university in the field of Science or Engineering or any Information Technology (IT) field; or a diploma from a Canadian* college in the field of Science or Engineering or any IT field; or any other degree or diploma from a Canadian* university or Canadian* college.
- *Where the post-secondary degree or diploma was completed and obtained outside of Canada, Canada may accept a Canadian academic equivalency document issued by a recognized academic credentials assessment organization showing the academic level obtained
- A minimum of 5 years of IT experience.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in the last 6 years, from the date of task authorization issuance, analyzing, developing, administrating, and implementing system modules, subsystems and programs within a "System of Systems"* environment.
- *A system of systems is defined as a collection of task-oriented or dedicated systems that pool their resources and capabilities together to create a new, more complex system which offers more functionality and performance than simply the sum of the constituent systems.
