We work at the intersection of large-scale engineering and advanced research, shaping how AI enhances the future of commerce.### About the RoleWe’re seeking a Senior AI Engineer who is passionate about creating world-class AI solutions and thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly visible, cross-functional team at the forefront of AI innovation within eBay.As a Senior AI Engineer, you’ll collaborate with Software Engineers, Researchers, and Data Engineers across the entire AI lifecycle — from early experimentation and prototyping to deploying production-grade systems that support millions of users globally. You will focus on Generative AI systems, intelligent agents, and the foundational infrastructure that enables these technologies at scale.### What you will accomplish* Design, build, and optimize large-scale Generative AI and agent-based systems that enable intelligent, adaptive, and efficient ecommerce experiences.* Lead development of agent-led user experiences, including systems leveraging task decomposition, tool use, memory, and dynamic planning.* Advance eBay’s internal GenAI platform by developing reusable components, APIs, and frameworks that accelerate the creation of AI-powered applications.* Monitor and improve performance, reliability, and responsible AI usage of models and agents in production.* Collaborate cross-functionally with researchers, data engineers, and designers to bridge experimentation and deployment with measurable business impact.* Drive innovation and iteration through experimentation, peer collaboration, and integration of the latest advances in AI/ML and intelligent agents.### What you will bring* 8+ years in software or machine learning engineering, including 4+ years of experience developing and deploying AI-centric systems.* 2+ years building LLM-based agent systems, autonomous workflows, or multi-agent orchestration.* Strong programming skills in Java (or other JVM languages) and Python, with experience using PyTorch, Transformers, or related ML frameworks.* Experience with Spring Framework, Docker, Kubernetes, and Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark).* Demonstrated success delivering AI products from prototype to production, emphasizing scalability, maintainability, and user impact.* Bonus: Experience with C++/CUDA for performance-critical systems, or familiarity with RAG pipelines, vector stores, and multi-modal models.
