Job Summary

Join FICO's legal team as a Sr. Counsel, focusing on Intellectual Property and Regulatory affairs. This role involves managing FICO's IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, as well as administering a global regulatory compliance program covering data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer financial products. You will provide practical legal advice, build strong internal relationships, and contribute to litigation efforts, supporting a world-class analytics software company in making smarter decisions globally.

Must Have

  • Juris Doctor degree and excellent academic credentials
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction
  • At least five years of relevant experience
  • Industry and legal knowledge relevant to development, licensing, and operation of analytic software products, including an understanding of open source licenses, in a SaaS environment
  • Experience with patent prosecution and harvesting, and registration and protection of trademarks and copyrights
  • Regulatory compliance experience in one or more of the following areas: data privacy, cyber security, artificial intelligence, consumer credit, consumer reporting, consumer financial products and services, export controls and sanctions screening, vendor management, government relations, and employment
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively and with attention to detail while managing multiple time-sensitive projects in parallel

The Opportunity

Join our dynamic and growing legal team with a world-class software analytics company. FICO’s solutions support smarter decisions in fraud detection, risk management, marketing, and customer management for thousands of businesses worldwide. Your primary responsibilities will involve supporting management of an intellectual property portfolio and administration of a global regulatory compliance program, but you will also have the opportunity to contribute in other areas such as litigation. You’ll build strong relationships with internal business clients, utilizing your legal expertise to provide practical advice to help the company achieve its business goals.” - Legal, Vice President

What You’ll Contribute

  • Maintenance and advancement of a patent, trademark, and copyright portfolio, corporate trade secret program, and software development policies and procedures, for protection of the company’s intellectual property and trade secrets.
  • Administration of a global regulatory compliance program, including corporate policies and procedures, employee training, law changes and regulatory developments, regulatory compliance terms in third-party contracts, open source licenses, international trade compliance, and client and regulatory inquires.

What We’re Seeking

  • Juris Doctor degree and excellent academic credentials.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction. A Minnesota or California location is preferred, but not required.
  • At least five years of relevant experience and a strong track record of success either in-house or at a law firm.
  • Industry and legal knowledge relevant to development, licensing, and operation of analytic software products, including an understanding of open source licenses, in a SaaS environment.
  • Experience with patent prosecution and harvesting, and registration and protection of trademarks and copyrights.
  • Regulatory compliance experience in one or more of the following areas: data privacy, cyber security, artificial intelligence, consumer credit, consumer reporting, consumer financial products and services, export controls and sanctions screening, vendor management, government relations, and employment.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to understand issues quickly, articulate complex matters clearly, both verbally and in writing, and develop effective legal strategies to protect and advance company interests.
  • The ability to work effectively and with attention to detail while managing multiple time-sensitive projects in parallel.
  • The ability to work with and manage outside counsel, and to independently interact with counterparties and their counsel.
