This internship offers hands-on experience in MEA processes, fuel cell testing, and root cause analysis (RCA) in an engineering environment. Must Have
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Master's or PhD degree in X or a related program

- Gain practical experience in applying coating techniques to various MEA components
- Assist with die-cutting materials to specified dimensions
- Learn lamination processes to bond layers together
- Perform fuel cell MEA fabrication, testing, and diagnostics at single-cell, short-stack, and full size levels
- Qualify new MEA and stack designs and components
- Develop methods and participate in tear down and root cause analysis (RCA) of full size returned fuel cell and electrolyzer product lines
- Document research activities, test results, and observations in detailed lab notes
- Assist with preparing reports that summarize findings, progress, and areas for improvement

Stack Test/Tear Down Intern
Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)
Term: May 18, 2026- August 7, 2026
Position Summary
Plug Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated student to join our Fuel Cell Stack development team. The student will be responsible for assisting in a wide variety of initiatives and projects in support of your academic studies and interests. In this role, you will assist with a variety of initiatives and projects, gaining hands-on experience in MEA processes, fuel cell testing, and root cause analysis (RCA) within an engineering environment. Learning Objectives
- Understand the fuel cell industry, its trends and challenges
- Learn the key stages involved in the production of a Membrane Electrode Assembly, from ink formulation to final testing.
- Gain hands-on experience in each step of the process, including coatings, die-cutting, lamination, hot pressing, fuel cell testing and electrochemical research and development
- Develop problem solving skills in an industrial approach
- Professional development – teamwork, time management, networking, etc.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- MEA Design: Gain practical experience in applying coating techniques to various MEA components, assist with die-cutting materials to specified dimensions, and learn lamination processes to bond layers together.
- Fuel Cell Testing and Qualification: Perform fuel cell MEA fabrication, testing, and diagnostics at both the single-cell, short-stack levels, and full size level. Qualify new MEA and stack designs and components as part of internal development programs for both fuel cell and electrolyzers
- Electrolyzer Stack Tear Down and RCA: Develop methods and participate in tear down and root cause analysis (RCA) of full size returned fuel cell and electrolyzer product lines
- Data Documentation and Reporting: Document research activities, test results, and observations in detailed lab notes and assist with preparing reports that summarize findings, progress, and areas for improvement.

Estimated Base Salary Range:
$21.00 - $25.00
