This position focuses on developing special effects using particle systems, post-processing, shaders, and materials for Kokku's games and client projects. The Technical Artist will create assets like 3D models and textures, ensuring efficient performance in real-time game engines. Key responsibilities include providing solutions, translating client needs into high-quality visuals, and staying updated with industry trends to enhance production efficiency.

Must Have

  • Develop special effects using particle systems, post-processing, shaders, and materials

  • Comfortable with version control software (Perforce, GIT, SVN)

Good to Have

  • Knowledge of auxiliary systems like destructible objects, fog, and post-processing configuration
  • Task automation capabilities (MAXScript, MEL, Python, Photoshop Actions, Unreal Utility Widgets)

Job Description

This position aims to develop special effects using particle systems, post-processing, shaders, and materials for use in Kokku's games and those of its clients.

The candidate must also be proficient in the software and methodologies required for creating assets used in their work, such as 3D modeling for support mesh production, drawing or digital painting for texture creation or adjustment, and the application of best practices to ensure that the produced content performs efficiently when used with real-time game engines.

Responsibilities

Act as a provider of options and solutions within your area of expertise, focusing on identifying and reconciling the needs of clients and the departments within our studio (design, art, and engineering), translating them into rich visuals of outstanding quality and performance.

Be capable of developing special effects using particle systems in the Unity, Unreal, and Roblox engines through the appropriate pipelines and tools specific to each technology. Additionally, possess knowledge of auxiliary systems when available, such as the configuration of destructible objects, fog, and post-processing.

Self-sufficiency in producing the assets required for use in the developed special effects, performing modeling, mapping, and material assignment of 3D meshes using Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender, and creating textures through digital painting in Adobe Photoshop and/or procedural Substance Designer composing.

Demonstrate a high level of flexibility while maintaining excellent quality and execution performance, even when producing effects and materials for a wide range of visual styles, game genres and platforms.

Maintain a strong team spirit and high level of communication, providing visibility into your progress, deliveries, and discoveries with the entire team involved.

Stay updated with the latest trends in art styles, gaming technology, and tools. Present innovative strategies or tools to enhance visual quality and efficiency in production sharing his knowledge with peers from both Tech Art, Art and Engineering through fast reports or comprehensive documentation and tutorials when needed.

Technical Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, Computer Graphics, or related field.

Experience in the gaming industry, ideally with previous roles such as a Tech Artist, 3D Artist, or Programmer Proficient in art software like Adobe Photoshop, Substance Designer, Substance Painter

Proficient in at least one 3D package as 3ds MAX, Maya or Blender.

Proficient on Material Editors from game engines Unity, Unreal also desirable in Roblox.

Proficient on Particle Editors from game engines Unity, Unreal also desirable in Roblox.

Basic knowledge of animation principles as timing, speed and keyframes.

Comfortable with most used version control softwares as Perforce, GIT or SVN.

Task automation capabilities are a strong plus (MAXScript, MEL, Python, Photoshop

Actions or engine systems as Unreal Utility Widgets).
