Job Summary
Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Germany is seeking a Technical Inspector to ensure shipboard technical installations meet specifications and regulatory requirements for new-build cruise ships. The role involves inspecting machinery and technical systems, assessing shipyard drawings, attending Factory Acceptance Tests, and coordinating with Class Society and DCL crew. This on-site position in Papenburg, Germany, requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in shipbuilding or maritime engineering and a Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
Must Have
- Inspect technical installations for conformance with specifications and regulations.
- Technical installation of machinery and various ship systems (laundry, galleys, cabins, pools, waste).
- Assess shipyard drawings and provide valid comments.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Ensure adherence to regulatory legislation with Class Society and shipyard.
- Coordinate and assist DCL crew for ship operation.
- Follow-up on defects, CRI, and open remarks.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in shipbuilding or maritime engineering.
- Familiarity with ship classification societies and regulatory bodies.
- Strong knowledge of marine systems, propulsion, power plants, and piping systems.
- Ability to review and comment on technical drawings and system technical descriptions.
- Proficiency in inspection techniques, quality control, and commissioning procedures.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.

WDI Germany provides technical, architectural, and design services for new-build cruise ships, specializing in managing and overseeing the design, construction, and outfitting processes in Germany and other parts of the world.
Responsible for Technical Inspections. This will cover all areas and systems within the vessels that require technical competence. The Technical Inspector will ensure that shipboard technical installations meet the specifications and all applicable statuary and class requirements.
This position is on-site in Papenburg, Germany.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect technical installations to verify conformance with specifications and applicable rules, regulations and standards.
- Technical installation of machinery systems and technical systems such as laundry, galleys, pantries, cabins, pools and Jacuzzis, waste systems.
- Ensure the assessment of the shipyard drawings are completed in good time and valid comments passed to the shipyard teams using the shipyard’s drawing approval system.
- Attends any required Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and ensures these are carried out as per relevant requirements and standards.
- Works with the Class Society and the shipyard to ensure that all present and foreseen regulatory legislation has been adhered to within the build process.
- Coordinates and assist DCL crew who will take over the operation of the ship.
- Maintains a positive attitude and open communication.
- Promotes a safety culture among team members and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Follow-up of defects and CRI and open remarks.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the company’s Technical Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ of experience in shipbuilding, or maritime engineering.
- Familiarity with ship classification societies and regulatory bodies.
- Strong knowledge of marine systems, propulsion, power plants, and piping systems.
- Ability to review and provide comments on technical drawings and system technical descriptions
- Proficiency in inspection techniques, quality control, and commissioning procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports and liaise with stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, international, and multi-disciplinary environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Education:
- Bachelor degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
