Job Description

This role is for a Payroll Support Lead and Subject Matter Expert for Germany, joining a world-class Support team committed to helping customers. The successful candidate will become a product expert in Global Payroll and HR for the German market, design and set up support processes for Germany-specific payroll queries, and work cross-functionally with Support, Product, and Enablement. Responsibilities include documenting product behavior, identifying gaps, creating enablement material, monitoring support quality, and partnering with the Product Manager for Germany.
Must Have:
  • Become a product expert in Global Payroll and HR capabilities for the German market.
  • Design and set up support processes for Germany-specific payroll queries.
  • Work cross-functionally with Support, Product, and Enablement teams.
  • Document current product behavior and identify gaps in German payroll coverage.
  • Create enablement material to train support teams and improve ticket deflection.
  • Monitor and analyze support volume and quality for German payroll cases.
  • Partner with the Product Manager for Germany to align on customer needs and roadmap.
  • Stay up to date with German labor laws, tax legislation, statutory benefits, and end-of-year processes.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in German payroll operations or support.
  • Deep understanding of BMF regulations, Minijobs, Church tax, Sick Pay, Vacation Pay, and payroll wage types.
  • Familiar with German tax and social contribution systems (e.g., Lohnsteuer, Rentenversicherung, Krankenversicherung).
  • Experience with payroll platforms (SAP HCM, DATEV, ADP, Sage, Personio, etc.).
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Comfortable in fast-paced SaaS environments and working across distributed teams.

This role will act as our Payroll Support Lead, SME for Germany.

What will you do?

  • Become a product expert in Global Payroll and HR capabilities for the German market.
  • Design and set up support processes for handling Germany-specific payroll queries, including:
  • Escalation paths, Internal knowledge base documentation, Case tagging and resolution workflows.
  • Work cross-functionally with Support, Product, and Enablement to ensure customer-facing teams can confidently support German payroll scenarios.
  • Document current product behavior and identify gaps in German payroll coverage, including:
  • Tax calculations, Social contributions (Sozialversicherung), Reporting obligations (e.g. ELSTER, DEÜV).
  • Create enablement material (FAQs, process guides, compliance explainers) to train support teams and improve ticket deflection.
  • Monitor and analyze support volume and quality for German payroll cases; share insights to improve support efficiency and product compliance.
  • Partner with the Product Manager for Germany to align on customer needs, compliance risks, and roadmap priorities.
  • Stay up to date with German labor laws, tax legislation, statutory benefits, and end-of-year processes.

What will make you successful?

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in German payroll operations or support.
  • Deep understanding of BMF regulations, Minijobs, Church tax, Sick Pay, Vacation Pay, and payroll wage types.
  • Familiar with German tax and social contribution systems (e.g., Lohnsteuer, Rentenversicherung, Krankenversicherung).
