LSEG is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Markets Legal Team in Mumbai. The role involves providing specialist and strategic legal advice to LSEG’s Markets Division globally, acting as a key contact for the sales team. Responsibilities include drafting and negotiating various commercial agreements, maintaining contract templates, and collaborating with senior lawyers on strategic initiatives and regulatory analysis. The successful candidate will be a proactive, hands-on general commercial lawyer with a problem-solving approach.
Good To Have:
  • Experience in the field of financial regulation is desirable
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of current and developing legal issues, the regulatory environment and trends in Markets
  • Develop a good understanding of the Markets business
Must Have:
  • Support the business with a wide range of legal advice across many jurisdictions
  • Act as a key point of contact and go-to person for the sales team
  • Draft and negotiate agreements with customers, vendors, partners and other third parties, including data licenses, software and intellectual property licenses, intercompany and outsourcing agreements and other commercial agreements
  • Maintain, update and revise contract template agreements, rule books
  • Support process improvement and automation within the Legal team
  • Work closely with Compliance, implementing internal controls, policies and procedures to increase efficiencies and assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, corporate policies and ethical standards
  • Qualified to practice with 2+ years’ experience at a reputable law firm / inhouse legal team
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting abilities
  • Excellent planning, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage projects
  • Strong skills to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Sound administrative and time management skills, with sharp attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to build strong, trusted and effective working relationships
  • Judgement, tact and discretion when dealing with people and issues

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW TEAM MEMBER! JOIN US! LSEG is looking to recruit a Legal Counsel to join the Markets Legal Team. The successful candidate should have a proven record of client service and a practical, problem-solving approach to support the business globally. They will be a hands-on and proactive general commercial lawyer to provide specialist and strategic legal advice to LSEG’s Markets Division. This role is based in Mumbai.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Supporting the business with a wide range of legal advice across many jurisdictions and becoming a key point of contact and go-to person for the sales team.
  • Collaborating with senior lawyers on strategic and corporate initiatives, and regulatory analysis.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements with customers, vendors, partners and other third parties, including data licenses, software and intellectual property licenses, intercompany and outsourcing agreements and other commercial agreements.
  • Maintaining, updating and revising contract template agreements, rule books and supporting process improvement and automation within the Legal team.
  • Working closely with Compliance, implementing internal controls, policies and procedures to increase efficiencies and assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, corporate policies and ethical standards.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

  • Qualified to practice with 2+ years’ experience at a reputable law firm / inhouse legal team.
  • Experience in the field of financial regulation is desirable.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of current and developing legal issues, the regulatory environment and trends in Markets and develop a good understanding of the Markets business.
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting abilities, with the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts and issues.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills, and an ability to manage projects.
  • Strong skills to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Sound administrative and time management skills, with sharp attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to build strong, trusted and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across different functions and cultures; judgement, tact and discretion when dealing with people and issues.
