Job Description

This position is responsible for following industry-standard project management practices in planning and managing the development and execution of projects. The role involves creating project scope and charter, defining project guidelines, obtaining sponsor approvals, estimating tasks, determining dependencies, and coordinating resources. Key responsibilities include managing all aspects of multiple projects, prioritizing work, defining project scope, estimating costs, developing project charters, determining staffing requirements, and providing work direction and leadership. The project manager will monitor milestones, critical dates, and dependencies, implement strategies to resolve schedule issues, and keep management informed of major issues. They will also manage effects on related projects, assess variances from the project plan, and report status to the project sponsor. Additionally, the role involves evaluating customer satisfaction and developing productive relationships with sponsors and vendors. Occasional travel may be required.
Must have:
  • Four plus years of Project Management experience
  • Two plus years of managing multiple projects
  • Moderate knowledge of project planning, execution, controlling, and closing
  • Ability to estimate, plan, and track complex, technical, and dependent tasks
  • Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and negotiation skills
  • Experience in managing project dependencies
  • Advanced interpersonal skills
  • Good time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, and organization skills
  • Results-oriented and customer-focused
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Good to have:
  • Professional project management certification

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for following the industry standard project management practices in planning and managing the development and execution of projects. Creates the project scope and charter, defines project guidelines, obtains project sponsor approvals, estimates task and determines dependencies, and coordinates the resources necessary to successfully complete the project.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of multiple projects.
  • Prioritizes work efforts on projects within a program.
  • Defines/refines the project scope, estimates project cost, further defines project deliverables, and develops/updates charter to be submitted for approval.
  • Determines staffing requirements and is able to recommend project teams consisting of representatives from multiple entities filling necessary roles for the project based on a staffing estimate and schedule.
  • Provides work directions and leadership to assigned projects including scheduling, assignment of work, and review of project efforts.
  • Ensures that all project members understand their role, expected deliverables, and task completion dates.
  • Proactively resolves dependencies with other projects and activities.
  • Monitors project milestones, critical dates, and dependencies to identify potential issues that could jeopardize the project schedule.
  • Implements strategies to resolve schedule issues.
  • Keeps management aware of the major issues.
  • Proactively manages any effects on related projects.
  • Assesses variances from the project plan, analyzes them, gathers metrics, and develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope (e.g. original charter and all approved changes), budget (e.g. time and cost), and quality objectives.
  • Manages effects on related sub-projects, and projects with dependencies.
  • Reports status to project sponsor during the project execution.
  • At project completion, informs project sponsor of the deliverables and confirms their acceptance.
  • Evaluates internal customer satisfaction level and develops strategies to increase the level of satisfaction when needed.
  • Develops and enhances a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors, and key entities, which may include making project team changes.
  • Participate in other projects or duties.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Moderate knowledge of facilitation and influencing, and project management methods.
  • Moderate ability to apply advanced project management methodology (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, Iterative, Critical Chain), concepts (e.g. Earned Value, Dynamic Modeling, Multi-constraint Analysis), and tools (e.g. MS Project, Oracle, @Risk) to all projects.
  • Moderate knowledge of project planning, execution, controlling, and closing as described in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (e.g. PMBOK), and have a working knowledge of program and portfolio methods.
  • Moderate ability to estimate (multiple methods), plan, and track complex, technical, and dependent tasks.
  • Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Have strong problem solving, risk assessment and negotiation skills with experience in managing project dependencies.
  • Have advanced interpersonal skills with ability to serve as primary liaison for internal customers.
  • Good time management, communications, decision-making, presentation skills (to all levels of leadership), and organization is required.
  • Results oriented, customer focused, and exhibit good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office packages.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
  • Four (4) plus years of Project Management experience.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience in managing multiple projects.
  • Professional project management certification is preferred.
  • Agile certification is preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Pay Transparency Statement:

US Base Salary Range: $86,600.00 - $112,500.00

Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.* The range displayed does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression.

In addition, as a part of our total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
