As the Operations, Payments Team Lead here at Sporty Group, you will be responsible for supporting the payments function within South Africa, focusing on managing fraudulent activities, implementing risk management strategies, optimizing payment performance, and enhancing payment acceptance rates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payments, fraud risk management, and team management, with a proactive approach to operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

- Monitor and improve payment performance metrics, including conversion rates, payment acceptance rates, and transaction success rates
- Drive initiatives to improve payment acceptance and conversion rates by optimizing payment gateway configurations and testing new payment methodsAnalyze payment data to identify trends, optimize payment routes, and enhance overall performance
- Collaborate with payment service providers (PSPs) to resolve issues
- Work closely with the fraud team to develop robust fraud prevention frameworks, activate trigger alerts and respond to emerging threats
- Conduct risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and implement controls to minimize financial and reputational risks
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and fraud techniques to ensure effective risk mitigation
- Analyze data to identify the root causes of payment failures and implement corrective actions

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field
- Experience in payment operations, fraud management, or risk management within financial services, fintech, e-commerce, or a related industry is required
- At least 2 years of experience in a team lead or supervisory roleStrong understanding of payment processing, fraud prevention strategies, and risk management practices
- Proven experience working with payment gateways, PSPs, fraud detection systems, and risk management tools
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams
