The AI Design team is responsible for ensuring the world of Star Citizen is full of life, from the tiniest of creatures to apex predators; from the human population in outposts, cities and space stations to the strange aliens on distant worlds. They are responsible for creating the AI behaviours for all of those and the interactable entities that these NPCs and creatures use in the world. Their aim is to achieve a level of detail never before seen in a video game by populating the myriad of locations with believable life forms based on each location’s theme, lore, and environmental conditions.

  

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What does a Senior AI Designer at CIG do?  

  • Shape AI behaviours in our game with your lead and directors
  • Be responsible for and create believable social and combat AI behaviours for both FPS and Ship gameplay.
  • Collaborate with dependent teams to ensure the technology is built to support the complexity needed by the AI
  • Formulate clear goals with directors and your lead for Animators and Programmers to define the standard for the game to achieve realistic and engaging behaviours for humans, aliens, creatures.
  • Work with Level & Content Designers to ensure the NPCs fulfil the requirements of their content
  • Document your work and make sure that everyone collaborating is motivated and well informed
     

What do we ask for?  

  • Strong technical design skills 
  • Excellent visual scripting skills.
  • A programming background is a plus. 
  • Proven experience building AI in previous AAA projects. 
  • In depth knowledge of Behaviour Trees, State Machines and other AI models. 
  • Great understanding of a character's emotions/needs/reactions/psychology and how that gets relayed to the player. 
  • Good grasp of FPS, Action and Combat games. 
  • Affinity for 3D game editors and tools.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.


Cloud Imperium aims to pave new ground in game development by sharing the process with the players.
