Job Description
The Account Director is responsible for strategically and operationally guiding important client relationships, and for managing and coordinating complex client projects. The role focuses on leading a team, developing and executing client strategies, ensuring quality, efficiency, and growth within the client portfolio, and monitoring timelines, budgets, and deliverables within projects.
The role requires a balance between strategic advice, stakeholder management, project and team leadership, and financial responsibility. The Account Director has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, operates independently, and is able to translate both complex client issues and project challenges into concrete solutions. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to influence others, and building sustainable internal and external relationships within the organization and with clients.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Client & Strategy Development
- Act as primary sparring partner for senior client stakeholders.
- Assistance in preparing pitches and proposals that align with client needs and expectations.
- Develop and monitor the overarching client strategy and translate it into concrete plans.
- Advise client decision-makers on communication, media, and marketing issues.
- Ensure high client satisfaction, long-term collaboration, and growth of the client relationship.
Problem Solving & Analysis
- Perform analyses and develop solutions within known frameworks and working methods.
- Independently identify problems and opportunities within the client and the team; initiate appropriate actions.
- Find solutions across various internal disciplines, without major business-critical risks.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead a team of approximately 6–10 employees, including junior managers, specialists, and other professionals.
- Support project teams with strategic advice and operational input to optimize project execution.
- Ensure coaching, development, and motivation of team members.
- Structure work activities, capacity, and role distribution within the team.
- Create a positive, results-oriented, and collaborative team culture.
Financial Responsibilities
- Responsible for preparing and managing the budgets of own client teams or a smaller business unit.
- Identify commercial opportunities and actively contribute to the sales process for new and existing clients.
- Monitor, report, and optimize financial performance through the team.
- Make major financial decisions in consultation with senior management.
- Ensure efficiency, profitability, and sound financial management of client projects.
Internal & External Stakeholder Management
- Intensive collaboration with departments within the organization (strategy, data, creation, etc.).
- Maintain external relationships with clients, partners, and suppliers.
- Able to positively influence individuals and groups through clear advice and effective communication.
- Support long-term planning and impact on broader project or campaign teams.
Organizational Impact
- Contribute to decision-making by advising management on client- and organization-relevant choices.
- Responsible for implementing strategies and client decisions within the team.
- Impact on short to medium term, usually within a one-year horizon.
