Project: Driving Monetization Strategy for App Rebrand
Objective:
As a Consumer Revenue Intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping the future of our mobile experience. You’ll dive into app development workflows, user research, QA testing, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration, all while exploring your interest in food, digital products, and user-centered design.
A core part of your work will involve researching and analyzing the go-to-market Consumer Revenue strategy - identifying, modeling, and recommending the features, value propositions, and pricing strategies that will drive user engagement and lifetime value post-launch. In addition, you will support promotion and marketing planning for the rebrand by helping inform the marketing brief, evaluating competitor positioning, and contributing insights that shape launch communications and sustained post-launch growth.
Scope:
- Competitive Analysis & Best Practices: Conduct in-depth research on the competitive landscape across the food, news, and lifestyle app sectors, specifically focusing on successful subscription tiers, feature bundles, and monetization strategies (e.g., pricing elasticity models).
- User & Audience Deep-Dive: Understand current user demographics, behaviors, pain points, and opportunities within the Epicurious app. Conduct a focused secondary research deep-dive into key audience segments to inform growth recommendations.
- Feature & Value Proposition Development: Help shape the most compelling consumer value propositions for the rebranded app. Develop content and feature recommendations (e.g., AI chatbot use cases) that align with user preferences and drive engagement/revenue.
- Rebranding Case Studies: Research successful rebranding/relaunch scenarios (in food or adjacent industries) to extract applicable learnings for the rebrand project.
- Marketing & Promotion Strategy Support: Assist in the development of early marketing and promotional planning for the rebrand. This includes evaluating competitive positioning, identifying high-potential promotional opportunities, assessing user acquisition levers, supporting messaging hierarchy development, and helping shape recommendations for pre-launch, launch, and post-launch promotional tactics.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with the Consumer Revenue lead and key stakeholders to inform the marketing brief by providing data-driven insights on consumer demand, pricing, and competitor offerings.
- Post-Launch Momentum Strategy: Conduct initial launch plan research and analyze strategies to sustain growth and engagement post-launch.
Deliverables:
- Strategic Recommendations for Features & Pricing Models: A final presentation or report recommending prioritized, best-in-class features (e.g., AI chatbot, content personalization, other utility features, etc.) and a tiered pricing model (including content bundles) for the rebranded app.
- Business Case for Feature Monetization: A detailed analysis, including a proposed business case, for 3-5 high-priority, revenue-driving features, completed in partnership with the Consumer Revenue lead.
- User Segmentation and Persona Report: A report outlining key user pain points, growth opportunities, and a detailed persona profile.
- Competitive Landscape and Trend Analysis: A comprehensive analysis deck detailing successful content, engagement, and monetization strategies from relevant competitors
Key Partners & Stakeholders:
The intern will have cross-functional team exposure and work closely with:
- Consumer Revenue (Revenue leads, growth, lifecycle & loyalty, and analytics)
- Performance Media
- Revenue Marketing (Brand Marketing & Consumer Creative)
- Research & Insights
- BA Editorial & Audience Development
- Product & Technology
What we’re looking for:
- Strong interest in mobile products, UX/UI, or digital content platforms.
- Familiarity with iOS/Android apps
- Comfortable working with tools and data platforms
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to jump in wherever needed.
- Curiosity about cooking, food culture, or the Epicurious audience is a plus—not required.
Hourly Pay: $25/hr
