The Corporate and External Communications Advisor, Canada is responsible for shaping TransUnion's corporate positioning and reputation in Canada. This role involves leading external communications strategy, managing media relations, and building thought leadership through data-driven storytelling. The advisor will provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on sensitive communications, manage PR agencies, and collaborate with marketing to amplify campaigns, ultimately enhancing the company's profile and protecting its reputation.

Must Have

  • Develop and deliver an integrated, Canada-focused external communications strategy aligned with global and regional business goals.
  • Lead corporate communication strategies, including product announcements, research insights/thought leadership, wider brand building activity, partner and employer of choice programs.
  • Lead media relations efforts, including proactive pitching, reactive engagement, and executive media training.
  • Identify and craft compelling stories from data, research, and business insights to drive thought leadership and earned media coverage.
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on complex and sensitive communications matters, including regulatory interactions, customer engagement, and reputational considerations.
  • Lead messaging development for high-visibility and high-impact situations that require discretion, deep market understanding, and alignment with corporate values.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor in navigating ambiguous or emerging issues, ensuring communications are proactive, protective, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Manage PR agencies and/or external partners to ensure consistent messaging, quality execution, and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with marketing and brand teams to amplify campaigns and ensure alignment across channels.
  • Protect the company’s reputation as a key member of the crisis/incident communications team.
  • Contribute to global communications planning and share best practices across regions.

What You'll Bring:

  • 7–10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or media relations (agency, in-house, or a mix of both).
  • Strong track record of securing earned media coverage and managing media relationships in Canada.
  • Proven track record developing, executing and measuring the success of strategic communication programs leveraging a variety of digital and traditional channels.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior executives on sensitive communications, with a strong understanding of reputational risk and stakeholder and market dynamics.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into compelling narratives.
  • Strategic thinker with experience developing and executing integrated communications plans.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Experience managing external agencies and budgets.
  • Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

Impact You'll Make:

The Corporate and External Communications Advisor, Canada is responsible for the corporate positioning of the business in region. They will build the external and internal reputation of the company and lead the external communications strategy and execution across the region.

This role facilitates strong media relations and focuses on building and protecting the company’s reputation through thought leadership and storytelling rooted in data. It partners closely with senior leaders, marketing teams, and global communications colleagues to deliver high-impact campaigns that support business priorities and elevate the company’s profile in Canada. The successful candidate will be a strategic communicator with deep experience in earned media, agency management (including budget), executive visibility, and issues management.

This role requires a high level of strategic judgment and market insight, particularly in advising senior leaders on sensitive communications involving key customers, regulators, and other external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be expected to navigate nuanced situations that demand thoughtful messaging to protect and enhance the company’s reputation.

This role also collaborates with regional internal communicators on strategic communication plans that help inform and inspire TransUnion associate performance, as well as communications designed to position the company as an employer of choice with prospective hires and in the broader community. It is also responsible for leading select customer communications that impact our corporate reputation.

This role reports to and works with the Director, Corporate & Americas Communications to deliver work originated both in-region and also at an Enterprise level. It is a member of the Corporate Affairs & Communications team globally and works closely with the global brand management & marketing teams. While this role does not have direct line management responsibilities, it will oversee agency relationships and collaborate across functions.

  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on complex and sensitive communications matters, including regulatory interactions, customer engagement, and reputational considerations.
  • Lead messaging development for high-visibility and high-impact situations that require discretion, deep market understanding, and alignment with corporate values.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor in navigating ambiguous or emerging issues, ensuring communications are proactive, protective, and aligned with business priorities, partnering with legal, compliance and Canada leadership team members as needed.
  • Manage PR agencies and/or external partners to ensure consistent messaging, quality execution, and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with marketing and brand teams to amplify campaigns and ensure alignment across channels.
  • Protect the company’s reputation as a key member of the crisis/incident communications team.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
