eBay is seeking a strategic Director, Employee Communications for the Global Market Experience (GMX) organization. This role involves designing and executing internal communication strategies to support GMX's vision, strategic priorities, and global transformation. Based in San Jose, the Director will partner with senior leadership, guide employees through change, and integrate newly formed teams across international markets, ensuring alignment and inspiration for growth.

  • Enable change management and integration of new teams by creating communications.

  • Collaborate across functions to ensure consistency and alignment with company-wide priorities.
  • Support executive communications including leadership narratives, All Hands, emails, campaigns, and video scripts.
  • Adapt communications for regional and cultural nuance, fostering inclusion and unity.
  • Build rhythms and feedback mechanisms to measure the impact and effectiveness of communications.
  • 12+ years of experience in internal and executive communications, with proven success in global, matrixed organizations.
  • 8+ years leading high-performing communications teams and delivering programs from strategy through execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to support organizational transformation, including change management, team integration, and modernization initiatives.
  • Strong cultural awareness and the ability to tailor messaging across diverse audiences.
  • Proven storytelling and writing excellence, with a style that is modern, concise, human, and adaptable across cultures.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change, paired with resilience and collaboration.
  • Experience shaping communications around ways of working and integration of new teams.
  • A BA in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • A global mindset and passion for building culture, driving alignment, and connecting employees to eBay’s purpose.

Supporting our Chief Commercial Officer, GMX sits at the heart of eBay’s growth strategy—driving innovation, cultural consistency, and transformation across all international markets.

We are seeking a strategic and inspiring Director, Employee Communications – Global Market Experience to design and execute internal communication strategies that reflect our global scale, diverse cultures, and ambitious agenda! Based at our San Jose headquarters, this role partners directly with the Chief Commercial Officer, SVP of GMX, Chief of Staff, and People Partner. You will guide employees through change, establish new ways of working, and integrate newly formed teams with clarity and energy. With quarterly global travel, you will serve as the connective tissue across our international markets, ensuring employees everywhere feel aligned, inspired, and ready to grow with eBay!

What You Will Accomplish:

  • Develop and lead a global internal communications strategy that supports GMX’s vision, strategic priorities, and transformation across all markets.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, shaping authentic messaging around market entry, customer experience, cross-border trade, localization, and sustainability.
  • Translate complex strategies—from AI-driven localization to platform modernization—into clear, engaging messaging that resonates across languages, roles, and geographies.
  • Enable change management and integration of new teams by creating communications that reinforce ways of working, culture-building, and organizational alignment.
  • Partner with the Chief of Staff and People Partner to guide employees through transformation, focusing on engagement, resilience, and team health.
  • Collaborate across functions (Global Communications, Product, Tech, Analytics, Business Operations) to ensure consistency and alignment with company-wide priorities.
  • Support executive communications including leadership narratives, All Hands, emails, campaigns, and video scripts that amplify the voice of GMX leadership.
  • Adapt communications for regional and cultural nuance, fostering inclusion and unity across a globally dispersed workforce.
  • Build rhythms and feedback mechanisms to measure the impact and effectiveness of communications, and continuously improve.

What You Will Bring:

  • 12+ years of experience in internal and executive communications, with proven success in global, matrixed organizations—ideally in ecommerce, retail, tech, or platform environments.
  • 8+ years leading high-performing communications teams and delivering programs from strategy through execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to support organizational transformation, including change management, team integration, and modernization initiatives.
  • Global fluency: strong cultural awareness and the ability to tailor messaging across diverse audiences; language skills or multicultural experience are a plus.
  • Proven storytelling and writing excellence, with a style that is modern, concise, human, and adaptable across cultures.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change, paired with resilience, collaboration, and a sense of humor.
  • Experience shaping communications around ways of working and integration of new teams in fast-evolving environments.
  • A BA in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field; advanced degree (MBA/MS) strongly preferred.
  • A global mindset and passion for building culture, driving alignment, and connecting employees to eBay’s purpose.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$190,400 - $254,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
