The Observability team, part of Platform Engineering, provides comprehensive insights into Nine's critical systems. This role involves leading and managing a team of Observability engineers, defining strategy, ensuring platform reliability, and driving adoption of best practices. The team empowers engineering teams with robust monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities to proactively identify issues and ensure seamless user experience, supporting Nine's continuous growth and innovation.
Must have:
  • Lead and manage a team of Observability engineers.
  • Define and execute Observability strategy and roadmap.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of Observability platforms.
  • Drive adoption of Observability best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams.
  • Stay current with industry trends in Observability.
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new tools.
  • Contribute to Nine's platform infrastructure architecture.
  • Provide clear direction and constructive feedback.
  • Foster continuous learning and growth.
  • Identify and nurture talent.
  • Manage team resourcing, recruitment, and retention.
  • Resolve conflicts and mediate team issues.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Job Description

The Observability team, as part of Platform Engineering, is dedicated to providing comprehensive insights into the health, performance, and behaviour of Nine's critical systems and applications. We empower engineering teams across the organisation with robust monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities, enabling them to proactively identify issues, troubleshoot efficiently, and ensure a seamless experience for our users. We strive to build scalable, reliable, and user-friendly observability solutions that support Nine's continuous growth and innovation.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage a team of Observability engineers within the Platform Engineering domain.
  • Define and execute the strategy and roadmap for Observability across Nine, covering logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Observability platforms and tools.
  • Drive the adoption of Observability best practices and educate development teams on their effective use
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers and product teams to integrate Observability into the software development lifecycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in Observability
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new tools and solutions.
  • Contribute to the overall architecture and design of Nine's platform infrastructure.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in software engineering management, leading teams focused on observability, SRE, or platform engineering
  • Strong technical background in observability principles, tools (e.g., Prometheus,Grafana, ELK stack, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry or similar), and best practices.
  • Experience building and managing distributed systems and cloud-native applications (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • The ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
