Job Description

Side is seeking a German Translator for its global translation operation. The role involves translating video game content and associated text from English to German, adhering to product-specific guidelines for linguistic quality. The translator will work within a team of language specialists, producing high-quality translations and reviewing documentation to deliver unforgettable game experiences.
Must have:
  • Translate in-game text, UI, legal, and supporting materials in line with client guidelines.
  • Revise and review translations to ensure linguistic accuracy, consistency, and natural flow.
  • Meet project deadlines and uphold quality standards within an established localization pipeline.
  • Ensure consistent tone, voice, and terminology across all content and game components.
  • Create, maintain and update glossaries, style guides, and character profiles based on predefined frameworks.
  • Perform consistency and terminology checks after updates to maintain quality across game versions.
  • Collaborate within a team of translators to allocate work based on text familiarity and logical content flow.
  • Identify and fix localization bugs, including post-release issues and bugs flagged during testing or legal review.
  • Track personal progress using translation software and project management tools (e.g memoQ, JIRA, client-specific tools).
  • Enter, monitor and respond to localization queries relevant to the target language, based on team workflows.
  • Assist with onboarding and workflow guidance to new translators on language-specific tools and project norms.
  • Support candidate test evaluation and occasionally contribute to test updates in collaboration with the team.
  • Native-level fluency in German and English.
  • Strong cultural knowledge of target market.
  • 1–3 years of experience in translation, localization, or equivalent language services.
  • Strong command of translation tools (e.g memoQ, Trados, XTM) and familiarity with workflow platforms (JIRA, Plunet).
  • Excellent linguistic accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to maintain consistency across projects.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and capable of working within a team-oriented environment while also managing independent tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to feedback and shifting project requirements.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines, with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Must be able to work in the UK/ Portugal and able to align with UK time zones.

About the role

Side is currently recruiting a German Translator for our global translation operation. We're looking for candidates with advanced language skills and in-depth cultural knowledge of German.

You will be responsible for correctly translating video game content and acting as an interpreter to change other associated text into German from English. You will follow product-specific guidelines to ensure the maximum linguist quality and adherence to all relevant conventions. You will be working as part of a team of language specialists to produce high-quality translations, either by translating yourself or reviewing documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate in-game text, UI, legal, and supporting materials in line with client guidelines, First Party terminology, and established tone and style.
  • Revise and review translations to ensure linguistic accuracy, consistency, and natural flow.
  • Meet project deadlines and uphold quality standards within an established localization pipeline.
  • Ensure consistent tone, voice, and terminology across all content and game components.
  • Create, maintain and update glossaries, style guides, and character profiles based on predefined frameworks.
