Job Summary
Thales is seeking an HSE Graduate to join their Above Water Systems team in Garden Island (Woolloomooloo). This 18-month program focuses on developing talented graduates through on-the-job training, mentoring, and structured learning. The role involves leveraging expertise in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ISO HSE standards, and database systems, demonstrating strong time management, attention to detail, and adaptability. The successful candidate will apply proactive thinking, sound judgment, and build excellent relationships with stakeholders, contributing to a secure, sustainable, and inclusive world.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in HSE, Science, Engineering, Psychology, or a related discipline
- Australian Citizenship to obtain required security clearance
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and fostering a culture of safety
- Expertise in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ISO HSE standards, and database/competency management systems
- Strong time management skills, attention to detail, and adaptability in dynamic environments
- Proactive thinking, sound judgment, and a forward-looking mindset
- Emotional maturity and resourcefulness
- Excellent relationship building and communication skills

Our program focuses on developing talented graduates to help us deliver tomorrows high-tech solutions. Over the 18 months you will engage in on-the-job training, mentoring, a graduate project and structured learning modules.
There will be opportunities not only to become an expert in your discipline but also learn from the wider Thales business, gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of Thales leading solutions.
Our Above Water Systems team provides engineering & maintenance services to Royal Australian Navy vessels and commercial ships. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our defence partners. With ongoing training programs and a team of over 500, our people have room to grow and develop an impactful career with us.
YOUR ROLE
In this position, you will:
- Leverage your expertise in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ISO HSE standards, and database/competency management systems.
- Demonstrate strong time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic environments.
- Apply proactive thinking, sound judgment, and a forward-looking mindset to everyday challenges.
- Bring emotional maturity and resourcefulness, thriving both as a collaborative team player and when working independently.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships across internal and external stakeholders, with communication skills that are second to none.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree in HSE, Science, Engineering, Psychology, or a related discipline.
- A genuine passion for working within a diverse team, united by a common purpose.
- Australian Citizenship, enabling you to obtain the required security clearance.
- A strong commitment to safe work practices and fostering a culture of safety.
AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE ROLES & SECURITY
A Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.
