Job Summary
Calix is seeking a Lab Network Technician to provide hands-on support in a Data Center based Telecom Equipment Lab. The role involves installing, powering, cabling, troubleshooting, and configuring telecommunications and data-communications products, including fiber and copper-based networking and PON gear. Responsibilities also include provisioning, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting networking components in a cloud environment, ensuring availability, performance, and security. The technician will work closely with various teams, manage Jira tickets, and document all changes, contributing to product development and release cycles.
Must Have
- Provide hands-on support in a Data Center based Telecom Equipment Lab for large-scale enterprise networks and systems from L1 – L3.
- Work closely with Fiber and Copper based Networking and PON gear for timely installation, powering, cabling, troubleshooting and configuring.
- Provisioning, configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting Networking Components in Cloud Environment.
- Create, verify, monitor, modify and update connections and configurations; track all changes and thoroughly document all details.
- Support Calix product development and cadence release cycles by working in close collaboration with other teams, ensuring timely closure of Jira tickets.
- Competency in Telecom, Datacom, Networking and Cloud Computing fundamentals.
- Strong background and experience in setting up, installing, configuring and troubleshooting networking and telecom gear (L1 – L3).
- Knowledge of PON based FTTX systems and components including ONT and OLT.
- Understanding of Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Cloud Services, Architectures and Security.
- Technical knowledge in Cabling, Facilities Maintenance and Systems Management.
- A Certificate or 2-year AS equivalent as a Networking Technician.
Good to Have
- Familiarity with DevOps principles, including automation and CI/CD.
- Experience with Asset Management, RFID tagging, and Jira Ticketing System.

Job Description
The Candidate will join an experienced team of individuals working onsite in a fast-paced Data Center based Lab Environment. Candidates will work closely with Lab Management, System Administrators, Network Engineers, Test Engineers, and Lab Technicians while also having the opportunity to interact with Calix Internal Customers and other Resources around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on support in a Data Center based Telecom Equipment Lab for large-scale enterprise networks and systems from L1 – L3.
- Work closely with Fiber and Copper based Networking and PON gear for Timely Installation, Powering, Cabling, Troubleshooting and Configuring of Telecommunications and Data-communications products and devices.
- Provisioning, Configuring, Monitoring and Troubleshooting Networking Components in Cloud Environment ensuring Availability, Performance and Security of Cloud Infrastructure under established protocols and policies.
- Create, Verify, Monitor, Modify and Update Connections and Configurations; track all changes and thoroughly document all details within the on premise or cloud-based infrastructure systems.
- Support Calix product development and cadence release cycles by working in close collaboration with other Technicians, Engineers, Software Developers and Management ensuring adequate and timely closure of Jira tickets.
- Communicate (in writing and verbally) with team members and management professionally in the lab and with Calix’s many remote teams and customers throughout the world.
- Develop a strong understanding of Calix products and the lab’s automation infrastructure.
- Grow skillsets in technical areas to compliment lab operations.
Position requires candidate to offer some flexibility in work schedule and be available for early / late for meetings or assisting in troubleshooting network issues.
Qualifications:
- Competency in Telecom, Datacom, Networking and Cloud Computing fundamentals.
- Strong background and experience in setting up, installing, configuring and troubleshooting networking and telecom gear including switches, routers, SFPs, etc. from L1 – L3.
- Knowledge of PON based FTTX systems and components including ONT and OLT.
- Understanding of Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Cloud Services, Architectures and Security is important.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles, including automation and CI/CD is highly valued.
- Must be Detail Oriented and Highly Organized, with outstanding Analytical, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Time Management skills.
- Technical knowledge in Cabling, Facilities Maintenance and Systems Management.
- Experience with Asset Management, RFID tagging, and Jira Ticketing System is desirable.
- Team Player with strong focus on Customer Service.
- Display Strong Work Ethic, Discipline and Professionalism.
- Competency in MS Office.
- Excellent technical communication skills in English, in both verbal and written communications.
- A Certificate or 2-year AS equivalent as a Networking Technician.
The base pay range for this position varies based on the geographic location. More information about the pay range specific to candidate location and other factors will be shared during the recruitment process. Individual pay is determined based on location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
