The group's core business involves deploying mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for commercial customers, particularly supporting the State of North Dakota's land mobile radio systems.
Job Description
The Field Service Technician provides technical support for specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning communication system infrastructure, and optimizing RF and Broadband architecture. This encompasses legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, optimize, test, and meticulously document complex communication systems.
- Submit weekly reports detailing activities and accomplishments.
- Conduct preventative maintenance routines to ensure optimal system operation, with a focus on trend analysis and thorough documentation.
- Develop effective solutions for challenging technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support.
- Maintain comprehensive familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems, exceeding customer expectations.
Qualifications:
- Certifications: Security +, CompTIA, or a related certification is highly desirable. At least one network certification (e.g., Network +, CCNA, NRS1) is also ideal.
- Networking Expertise: Proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, including cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges. Strong knowledge of wired communication systems (LAN/WAN) is essential. Must be capable of maintaining server hardware/OS and software infrastructure, and troubleshooting related issues.
- Communication Systems: Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, and wired/wireless communication systems and networking equipment. Knowledge of R.F. systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks) is preferred. Understanding of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques is also preferred.
- Technical Experience (Preferred):
- Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, Centracom, MCC Console systems, Secure Operations, and ASTRO A7.x Digital systems and installation procedures.
- P25, LMR, Smartnet, SmartZone, RF infrastructure, ASTRO systems, radios, and consoles.
- LTE or Private LTE Nokia system knowledge, Juniper Routers, and Aruba Switches configuration.
- Test Equipment (Preferred): Strong skills in using various communication test equipment, including Ethernet Link test sets and/or Digital RF Power Meters.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong self-management and "people" skills are crucial for effective collaboration with Motorola's customers, subcontractors, and internal teams (Sales, Engineering, Project Management, customer service).
Candidate Requirements:
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license
- You will be required to perform strenuous duties. You must be ability to lift and operate 25 - 50 lbs.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)
Travel/Location:
- This is a role than requires our Field Service Technician to be on the customer site(s) daily in the Bismarck, ND area. Candidates must be located within a 1 hour commute time to the customer location.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.
Basic Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking Equipment, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)
