Product Designer

Character.AI is seeking a talented Product Designer to shape the user experience of AI entertainment products. This role involves rethinking design, user interfaces, and interactions from first principles. The designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative, user-centered solutions, contributing to product strategy, defining feature areas, crafting polished UIs, and rapidly prototyping ideas. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of user-centric design, a strong portfolio, and a passion for pushing AI boundaries.

Must Have

• Contribute to the strategic direction of products
• Define feature areas with excellent attention to detail and polish
• Craft beautiful, polished, and delightful user interfaces
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, AI researchers and other stakeholders
• Rapidly prototype ideas using code and other methods
• Find creative ways to ship high-quality work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
• Strong portfolio showcasing user-centric design thinking, UI craftsmanship, and innovative interaction paradigms
• Proven track record of executing end-to-end on large and complex products

Good to Have

• Experience designing complex workflows, consumer apps, social apps, or AI-first products
• Experience with prototyping, especially using front-end code (e.g. HTML/CSS/JS)

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of user-centric design, a strong portfolio showcasing their craft, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI.

What you’ll do:

• Contribute to the strategic direction of our products, rooted in a desire to entertain and delight our users
• Define feature areas with excellent attention to detail and polish, identifying opportunities to improve quality and consistency of broader flows
• Craft beautiful, polished, and delightful user interfaces that build trust and showcase the power of our AI technology
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, AI researchers and other stakeholders to define product vision, strategy and roadmaps
• Rapidly prototype ideas using code and other methods to communicate concepts and build excitement
• Find creative ways to ship high-quality work in a fast-paced, often ambiguous, resource-constrained startup environment

You may be a good fit if you have:

• 8+ years of product design experience (experience designing complex workflows, consumer apps, social apps, or AI-first products preferred)
• Strong portfolio showcasing user-centric design thinking, polished UI craftsmanship, and innovative interaction paradigms
• Proven track record of executing end-to-end on large and complex products or a series of products in ambiguous environments
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence without authority
• Passion for crafting scaled, highly impactful, safe and beneficial artificial intelligence technologies to enable new possibilities
• Experience with prototyping, especially using front-end code (e.g. HTML/CSS/JS) preferred
