Who are we hiring?
The Senior Director & General Manager Studio Facilities will serve as the general manager for Sphere Studios’ Burbank offices and “Big Dome” screening facility. Reporting to the EVP, Head of Sphere Studios, this role oversees both the Facilities team and the Big Dome Operations team. The Senior Director & General Manager Studio Facilities will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and innovative operations across the studio’s physical spaces while maximizing their impact in support of Sphere Studios’ productions, events, and clients.
The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and an operational expert, with proven experience in facilities management, production operations, and client-facing services. Success in this position will be measured by operational excellence, client satisfaction, facility readiness, and the ability to align day-to-day execution with the evolving needs of the studio.
What will you do?
Facilities Operations
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Sphere Studios’ Burbank office and Big Dome screening facility, ensuring the spaces are safe, secure, and well-maintained
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts (janitorial, HVAC, utilities, engineering, etc.)
- Conduct regular inspections, proactively identifying and addressing facility needs
- Lead space planning, infrastructure upgrades, and capital improvement projects
- Serve as point of contact for building issues, emergency response, and site logistics
Big Dome Operations
- Direct operations of the Big Dome facility to ensure seamless support for productions, dailies, reviews, VIP tours, and events
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to maximize utilization and impact of the facility, including 24/7 readiness
- Oversee scheduling and staffing of screenings, reviews, and technical support
- Ensure technical upgrades, testing, and installations are executed without disruption to operations
- Partner with creative and technical teams to support production, capture, and client needs
Leadership & Strategy
- Manage, mentor, and develop both Facilities and Big Dome Operations teams, fostering collaboration and accountability
- Drive a culture of service excellence and operational rigor across both functions
- Partner with Studio leadership to anticipate evolving business needs and align operational priorities
- Prepare and manage budgets for facilities and screening operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization
- Represent Sphere Studios in interactions with executives, talent, clients, and vendors, embodying the Company’s values and culture
What do you need to succeed?
- 8+ years of progressive experience in facilities management, studio operations, or related fields, including leadership of multidisciplinary teams
- Proven track record in managing complex facilities and/or production environments, ideally within entertainment, studio, or live-event industries
- Strong operational and financial acumen, including vendor and budget management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across creative, technical, and executive stakeholders
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills; capable of balancing long-term vision with day-to-day problem-solving
- Calm under pressure, adaptable in high-demand environments, and able to manage competing priorities
- Experience with capital projects, technical installations, and operational playbooks preferred
Special Requirements
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Occasional travel to other Sphere sites may be required
