Job Summary
As a Sputter Process Shift Engineer, you will lead a team of technicians, conducting experiments, making samples on sputter machines, troubleshooting systems, and supporting preventive maintenance. This role requires ownership of sputter process activities, collaboration with other teams for NPI, and a willingness to learn. You will monitor in-process data, make process adjustments, and escalate issues to engineers. Flexibility for a 12-hour shift pattern and overtime is essential.
Must Have
- Lead a team of technicians for experiments and sample making on sputter machines.
- Perform sputter system troubleshooting.
- Support periodic preventive maintenance.
- Set up procedures for characterization/evaluation samples on Sputter machine.
- Conduct line setup, KPIV buyoff & validation.
- Check & validate process readback parameters (voltage, current, gas pressure).
- Manage NPI line activities and monitor in-process sputter data (particles, yields, DET).
- Make necessary process adjustments per guidelines.
- Collaborate with front & backend area leaders for NPI activities.
- Arrange sampling/measurements and compile shiftly reports.
- Monitor & troubleshoot alarms during production runs.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks (e.g., base pressure check).
- Carry out periodic samples housekeeping.
- Comply with EHS policy and participate in company activities (IMS, 6S, RBA, BCM, ZDM).
- Preferable Master/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic/Material/ Engineering.
- Minimum 3-5 Years working experience in supervisory role in manufacturing environment.
- Experience with machine operation, data collection & analytical skills.
- Working experiences in Sputtering or related field.
- Knowledge of Magnetic materials used in HDD.
- Understanding of failure mechanisms.
- Ability to isolate & detect process changes causing machine alarms.
- Proficient in MS Windows Software (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook) & Forum Notes.

As Sputter Process Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team of technicians to carry out experiments, making samples on sputter machine following the experiment plan provided by Engineer, Sputter system troubleshooting, support periodic preventive maintenance and other related tasks assigned by supervisor from time to time. The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, take the ownership of sputter process activities and collaborate effectively with other front & backend areas for NPI activities. They will demonstrate a willingness to learn, flexibility, creative problem solving, exemplary communication skills and an ability to think on their feet. Candidates must be flexible to work a 12hour Shift Pattern and overtime, as required by the team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up procedures to Run characterization / evaluations samples on Sputter machine following the experiment plan prepared by Sputter Engineers
- Line setup, KPIV buyoff & validation following machine start-up procedures, feedback any abnormality found to Senior Engineers and take appropriate corrective action.
- Check & validate process readback parameters – like voltage, current, gas pressure etc.
- Manage NPI line activities, monitor all in process sputter data (particles, yields, DET etc),
- Make necessary process adjustments as per preset guidelines
- Take appropriate actions during the expt or continuous production run and feedback/escalate to Engineers for any issues.
- Work together with front & backend area leaders for all NPI activities and communicate any changes in sputter parameters which may impacting other process
- Arrange all sampling / measurements and compile shiftly reports
- Monitor & troubleshoot Alarms while running characterization samples, take appropriate action based on guidelines & instructions, support periodic preventive maintenance per PM schedule. Conduct routine maintenance checks and services example base pressure check etc.
- Carry out periodic samples house keeping & other tasks.
- Comply and support EHS policy. Participate company activities such as IMS, 6S, RBA, BCM, ZDM, etc
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Preferable with Master/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic/Material/ Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 Years working experience in supervisory role in manufacturing environment with machine operation, data collection & analytical skills.
- Working experiences in Sputtering or related field and knowledge of Magnetic materials used in HDD would be preferred.
- Understanding of failure mechanisms, ability to isolate & detect process changes causing machine alarms.
- Proficient in MS Windows Software (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook) & Forum Notes
- Effective team player with proven relationship building & communication skills, including cross-functionally with Production, Process, Yield, and Quality.
SKILLS:
- Technical - Familiarity with sputtering equipment or other vacuum systems.
- Problem Solving – Proficiency in troubleshooting process controls, process adjustments, data readback from machine, control limits.
- Communication - Ability to communicate technical information effectively to colleagues and engineers.
- Safety – Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations in the manufacturing environment.
- Teamwork – Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Adaptability - Proficiency in handling emergencies and unexpected equipment failures.
