Onward Search is hiring a Software Engineer III for a fully remote, 3+ month contract opportunity with a leading global technology organization. The role involves joining the Platform Developer Experience team to design, scale, and maintain a next-generation monorepo ecosystem. The engineer will contribute to building and enhancing tooling that improves developer productivity, shaping a seamless and scalable workflow in an engineering-driven environment.

Must Have

  • Design, improve, and scale monorepo infrastructure using Bazel.
  • Lead and support migration efforts, including ownership of Bazel-based tooling.
  • Improve developer productivity through well-integrated, automated build and test workflows.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and platform engineering teams to shape a unified monorepo experience.
  • Support millions of lines of code scaling and developer workflow optimization.
  • Experience building tools for large monorepo environments.
  • Strong expertise with Bazel, its rulesets, and supporting ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, Starlark, and TypeScript.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Passion for improving developer workflows, CI, VCS, and platform-level tooling.

Job Description

This is a 3+ month contract role, with preference for candidates in the EST or CST time zones.

In this role, you’ll join the Platform Developer Experience team to design, scale, and maintain a next-generation monorepo ecosystem. You'll contribute to building and enhancing tooling that improves developer productivity, shaping a seamless and scalable workflow for one of the industry's most engineering-driven environments.
