About Astra

Astra is building mission-critical infrastructure for moving money at scale. Our platform processes billions in annual transaction volume with 99.9%+ uptime, powering real-time transfers, bank debits, card disbursements, and complex financial compliance systems. We provide APIs and automation tools that enable businesses to move money programmatically while maintaining strict regulatory requirements.

We’re looking for a compliance professional who thrives in a regulated fintech environment. You’ll work directly with customers and internal teams to support audits, validate compliance processes, and ensure KYC/AML frameworks are implemented effectively. Your work will help Astra uphold trust, meet regulatory standards, and enable customer growth.

The Role

As Astra’s first Staff Accountant, you will be at the center of our financial operations. This is more than a traditional accounting position — it’s an opportunity to build the systems and processes that will support Astra’s next stage of growth. You’ll be responsible for the full accounting cycle, from invoicing and vendor management to bank reconciliation and monthly close. You’ll also work closely with our tax advisors, ensure compliance across the board, and help prepare materials for fundraising and board presentations.

Because this is an early hire on the Finance team, you’ll have direct input into the tools we implement, the workflows we adopt, and the controls we establish. You’ll collaborate with leaders across operations, compliance, sales, and product to ensure that Astra’s financial foundation scales as quickly and reliably as our technology.

This role is perfect for someone who has the technical accounting skills to execute today, but also the vision and drive to build scalable processes for tomorrow.

What You’ll Do

  • Customer Invoicing: Manage billing cycles and ensure accurate, timely invoicing.
  • Vendor Payments: Oversee accounts payable and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Cash Management: Monitor bank accounts, reconciliations, and day-to-day treasury functions.
  • Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate day-to-day records of all financial transactions, ensuring clean ledgers and reconciliations that provide leadership with real-time visibility into Astra’s financial health.
  • Monthly Close: Lead the preparation and accuracy of monthly financial closes.
  • Compliance & Taxes: Partner with external tax accountants on annual returns and filings.
  • Fundraising Support: Prepare financial materials and data packages for investors and board presentations.
  • Process Building: Identify gaps and implement scalable procedures to support rapid growth.
  • Taxes: Prep and management of annual tax obligations and reporting.

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or on track is a plus).
  • 2–4+ years of accounting experience, ideally at a fast-growing tech company or public accounting firm.
  • Strong grasp of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting systems. Familiarity with SaaS billing or fintech operations is a plus.
  • You love building structure where there isn’t any. Comfortable rolling up your sleeves, solving problems, and creating clarity in a fast-moving environment.
  • Comfortable collaborating across Compliance, Risk, and Engineering teams.
  • Organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple customer evaluations simultaneously.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Technical Skills

  • Accounting Systems: Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting platforms; experience implementing or migrating systems is a plus.
  • Excel/Sheets Mastery: Ability to build and maintain complex models, reconciliations, and reporting dashboards.
  • ERP & Integrations: Exposure to ERP systems or workflow tools (NetSuite, Ramp, Bill.com, Carta, etc.) and an interest in optimizing processes through automation.
  • Data Savvy: Ability to analyze large datasets, reconcile discrepancies, and present clean, actionable reports.
  • Compliance Familiarity: Understanding of GAAP, audit prep, and internal controls.
  • Bonus: Experience in SaaS, payments, or fintech accounting environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Startup or Scale-Up Finance: Previous work in a high-growth tech or fintech environment where you’ve built processes from scratch.
  • Fundraising & Investor Relations: Experience preparing materials for investors, auditors, or board meetings.
  • Tax & Compliance Coordination: Partnering with outside tax firms or auditors to manage annual returns and financial reviews.
  • Payments / Fintech Knowledge: Familiarity with transaction flows, SaaS revenue recognition, or payment operations.
  • Process & Systems Design: Implementing new financial tools (ERP, billing platforms, expense management software) and scaling workflows.
  • CPA / Public Accounting Background: A grounding in public accounting, audits, or assurance that brings rigor and discipline.

Why This Role Matters

Finance is the lifeblood of Astra. Every customer invoice, every vendor payment, and every board update depends on accuracy, timeliness, and trust. As our Staff Accountant, you won’t just keep the books — you’ll be enabling Astra to grow responsibly, secure investment, and earn customer confidence.

Your work will:

  • Ensure that Astra can scale operations without losing financial discipline.
  • Give leadership real-time clarity into the numbers that drive decisions.
  • Create the credibility with investors, partners, and regulators that fuels our long-term success.

By joining now, you’ll have an outsized impact on Astra’s trajectory and the chance to leave your mark on a company redefining how money moves.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with equity in a growing fintech company
  • Remote-first culture with flexible working arrangements
  • Small team, big impact — your work directly supports Astra’s ability to scale responsibly
  • Professional growth opportunities in compliance and risk management
  • Mission-driven — build infrastructure that powers financial innovation while meeting the highest regulatory standards

Remote Work and Culture

Astra is a remote-first company hiring only within the U.S. We value thoughtful collaboration, clarity, and initiative. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
