Job Summary

The System Validation Lead Engineer will plan and lead all system testing activities, including verification, validation, and integration for in-cabin camera and radar systems. This role involves defining optimal test strategies, managing schedules, and ensuring high-quality deliverables by project milestones. The lead will manage sub-project teams, deliver V&V reports, develop validation strategies for performance requirements, and oversee functional safety compliant test environments, while collaborating with project management and other technical managers.

Must Have

Good to Have

  • Experience in developing ADAS, Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), or Occupant Monitoring Systems (OMS)
  • Deep knowledge of in-cabin sensing technologies (camera and/or radar sensors)
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of image processing, computer vision, or radar signal processing, and methods for verifying and validating perception systems
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, software architecture, and system integration
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to deeply understand complex challenges and stakeholder expectations
  • Experience in management, including planning, progress tracking, and priority-based control
  • Deep knowledge of automotive process models (e.g., Automotive SPICE), particularly in the verification and validation process areas (SYS.4, SYS.5)
  • Experience in risk management and risk-based testing
  • Knowledge of automotive standards and regulations related to in-cabin sensing (e.g., Euro NCAP, GTR)

Mission

  • Plan and lead all system testing activities, including system verification & validation (V&V) and system integration.
  • Define optimal test strategies (what to test, how to test, and to what extent) to ensure that all system functions are properly evaluated.
  • Manage test schedules and ensure deliverables are completed with a high level of quality by project milestones.
  • Lead system validation sub-projects and ensure project success by meeting Quality, Cost, and Timing (QCT) targets.

Responsibilities

1) Technical Project Management

  • Define, plan, and execute the overall strategy for system integration, verification, and validation (V&V), including planning and cost estimation, and obtain approval from the System Project Manager and management.
  • Manage system validation sub-project teams and deliver V&V reports in a timely manner, consolidating test results from SIL, HIL, and vehicle-level testing.
  • Develop and execute validation strategies that meet camera- and radar-specific performance requirements (e.g., detection accuracy, robustness, Euro NCAP standards).
  • Manage System Test Leads and System Integration Test Leads.
  • Establish and manage test environments compliant with functional safety requirements.
  • Manage the validation budget.
  • Monitor test progress against the schedule, ensure customer deadlines are met, and proactively identify and communicate risks of delays.

2) Collaboration Within the Team

  • Work closely with the project management team to consistently manage schedules, deliverables, costs, and quality under a unified approach.
  • Based on FMEA, analyze camera- and radar-specific failure modes (e.g., sensor blockage, missed detection, false positives) and propose appropriate verification and validation methods.
  • Collaborate with other project TPMs (Technical Project Managers) to evaluate internal and external change requests and flexibly revise validation plans and costs as needed.

3) Reporting and Customer Communication

  • Report overall system validation status and performance KPIs to the System Project Manager.
  • Communicate with customers regarding system validation activities, including agreement on performance KPIs, explanation of test strategies, and planning and execution of joint tests.
  • Escalate issues such as shortages of test resources or facilities, budget constraints, or schedule delays to management in a timely manner, together with proposed countermeasures.

Business Travel

  • Approximately once per week (day trips) to Tsukuba
  • Some system testing is conducted in Tsukuba.

  • Extensive validation experience in the automotive industry (3+ years)
  • Experience in developing camera products or ADAS-related systems
  • Japanese: Business-level proficiency
