Ubisoft Bordeaux
Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works passionately on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio has over 400 talents, from 20 different nationalities, working on franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2, as well as other unannounced projects. In parallel, the studio has developed a Tech branch, which works on all Ubisoft online services, Online Services, as well as the Anvil game engine. An R&D hub, La Forge, has also been created, bringing together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes that will serve game productions, particularly around AI issues.
Job Description
Main Missions
As Technical Director - Level Design (M/F/NB), you will play an essential role in the design and optimization of technical tools and processes related to Level Design. Your responsibilities include:
- Defining the technical direction for Level Design, with an emphasis on world building
- Participating in the implementation of production pipelines, in collaboration with technical and creative teams
- Challenging and validating the technical feasibility of pipelines, features, and tools (data) to deliver the expected quality for optimal efficiency
- Ensuring technical validation of levels/worlds and their ingredients
- Supervising and providing support to project teams on technical aspects related to Level Design/World Building
- Contributing to project planning, ensuring stability, optimization, and bug resolution
- Participating in the writing of technical documentation, particularly on the tools and pipelines used
- Staying informed of new technical developments in the industry to anticipate evolutions and integrate them into projects
- Serving as a privileged technical contact for teams, ensuring fluid communication between different departments
Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Significant experience in technical Level Design, with previous experience as Lead or Technical Director (or Technical Director Assistant) on an AAA game
- Proficiency in a game engine and its Level Design tools
- In-depth knowledge of production pipelines and data management tools
- Solid understanding of the technical and artistic constraints of Level Design
- Experience in performance optimization and technical debugging
- Ability to write clear and accessible technical documentation
Soft Skills
- Leadership and ability to support technical teams
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Sense of organization and priority management
- Ability to anticipate technical issues and propose innovative solutions
- Proficiency in English
