eBay is seeking a Technical Lead for Connected Products to guide a cross-functional team in shaping the future of e-commerce. The role involves owning the end-to-end delivery of complex features, from technical design to deployment and observability. Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, collaborating with product and design teams, driving engineering excellence through code reviews and best practices, and improving development workflows. The lead will also advocate for advancements in testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability, and serve as a point of contact for system debugging and incident response. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation and a strong desire to impact one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms.
Must have:
  • 8+ years experience in building large scale, distributed web platforms/APIs
  • 3+ years as a technical lead responsible for end-to-end product scope
  • Proficiency in Java/Spring
  • Experience in end-to-end system design (frontend to backend)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sense of ownership
Good to have:
  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Experience in proposing and influencing technical strategy & roadmap

What you'll do and learn:

  • Lead the technical direction of a cross-functional product team, ensuring sound architectural decisions and alignment with platform strategy.

  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex features—from discovery and technical design to implementation, testing, deployment, and observability.

  • Mentor and coach engineers of varying levels, fostering a growth-oriented, collaborative team environment.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to shape roadmaps and make strategic trade-offs that balance quality, speed, and scalability.

  • Drive a culture of engineering excellence through code reviews, best practices, and continuous improvement of development workflows.

  • Advocate for and implement improvements to our testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability processes.

  • Champion best practices in accessibility, security, and performance across frontend and backend codebases.

  • Be a point of contact for system-level debugging, incident response, and operational readiness.

What you bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in building large scale, distributed web platforms/APIs with 3+ years as a technical lead responsible for the end to end product scope across multiple functional areas.

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team, delivering complex projects that span multiple functional areas independently. 

  • Proficiency with multiple programming languages and frameworks, with deep mastery in Java / Spring.

  • Solid knowledge in end to end system design from frontend to backend involving JavaScript frameworks, GraphQL/Rest APIs, Messaging Systems, RDBMS/NOSQL, Containers, Infrastructure layer, with deep knowledge in several key components. Experience in GraphQL is preferable. 

  • Developed and drove adoption of technical practices to improve team velocity to deliver high-quality code within the team.

  • Experience in proposing and influencing technical strategy & roadmap, balancing short/long term wins is preferable.

  • Innovative, team player, excellent communication and decision-making

  • Strong sense of ownership and interpersonal skills to work effectively across teams

  • Strong learning ability, self-driven

  • Excitement for new and innovative technologies within immediate field of expertise
