Job Summary

WAVY-TV 10/ WVBT FOX43 is seeking a dynamic Weather Intern for the Summer 2026 semester. This unpaid, for-credit position offers behind-the-scenes experience in TV news and weather. The intern will be trained to build unique weather graphics and learn comprehensive weather storytelling. Candidates should be self-starters, eager to learn local newsroom operations, and understand how departments collaborate.

Must Have

  • Completed atmospheric and meteorology courses
  • Understands journalistic integrity
  • Basic understanding of how to read and forecast weather maps
  • Enrolled in a college degree-granting program
  • Required to show proof of enrollment in an internship course
  • Willingness to learn the inner workings of a local newsroom
  • Ability to work a varying schedule Sunday through Saturday (minimum 12-15 hours per week on site)

Job Description

WAVY-TV 10/ WVBT FOX43 is searching for a dynamic WEATHER INTERN who is ready to experience the exciting world of TV news and weather behind the scenes. This intern will be trained to build unique weather graphics and learn how to tell a complete weather story.

This is an UNPAID / FOR-CREDIT position for the Summer semester 2026 only.

We are looking for someone who has completed atmospheric and meteorology courses, understands journalistic integrity, and has a passion for how weather affects everyone. In addition chosen candidate should have a basic understanding of how to read and forecast weather maps and, if possible - but not required, how to use The Weather Company MAX computer graphics. Familiarity with ADOBE Premier is a plus.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and must have a willingness to learn the inner workings of a local newsroom and how all departments in a TV station work to support each other. Before beginning, the intern \*must be\* enrolled in a college degree-granting program, and \*will be required\* to show proof of enrollment in an internship course within that program.

Minimum 12-15 hours per week on site during the summer. Ability to work a varying schedule Sunday through Saturday required; days and times will vary and be set in agreement with supervisor.
