Job Description

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Reporter for a 12-month maternity leave contract. This role involves shaping the national conversation and contributing to the success of trusted media brands. You will identify and deliver exclusive news, build relationships, produce engaging reports for various platforms, and deliver confident live crosses, upholding journalistic standards.
Must have:
  • Identify, chase, and deliver exclusive and agenda-setting news stories.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key contacts, public figures, and organisations.
  • Produce high-quality, engaging reports for television, digital, and social platforms.
  • Deliver confident and credible live crosses, including breaking news and high-stakes coverage.
  • Lead by example in upholding journalistic standards, ethics, and editorial integrity.
  • Collaborate with producers, camera crews, and digital teams to execute stories with precision and impact.

Day to day you will:

  • Identify, chase, and deliver exclusive and agenda-setting news stories.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key contacts, public figures, and organisations.
  • Produce high-quality, engaging reports for television, digital, and social platforms.
  • Deliver confident and credible live crosses, including breaking news and high-stakes coverage.
  • Lead by example in upholding journalistic standards, ethics, and editorial integrity.
  • Collaborate with producers, camera crews, and digital teams to execute stories with precision and impact.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience as a journalist or reporter in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • A proven ability to break stories and set the news agenda.
  • Polished on-camera presence and exceptional live reporting skills.
  • Advanced research, writing, and interviewing capabilities.
  • A calm and focused approach under pressure, with strong editorial judgement.
  • Deep understanding of media law, compliance, and newsroom best practice.
