Job Description

Oetinger Media GmbH is a leading audiobook publisher in the German-speaking region, producing a wide range of high-quality audiobooks for children, young adults, and adults. They are seeking a Sound Engineer to join their team starting October 1, 2025, initially on a temporary basis, to help build and operate a new in-house studio. The role involves creating soundscapes, bringing stories to life, and contributing expertise to establish a creative environment for outstanding audiobook productions.
Must have:
  • Independent technical support for audiobook recordings
  • Recording direction
  • Participation in building and developing a small in-house studio
  • Recording, editing, mixing, and mastering of voice recordings
  • Sound design for selected productions
  • Complete technical implementation – from recording to final file delivery
  • Communication and coordination with speakers, producers, directors, and various publishing departments
  • Structured archiving and management of audio data
  • Support for sound and event technology
  • Independent implementation of all tasks in close consultation with the team

Oetinger Media GmbH is part of the Oetinger publishing group and is one of the leading audiobook publishers in the German-speaking region. With our imprints Oetinger audio and Igel Records, we produce a wide range of high-quality audiobooks – from lovingly staged audio plays for children, such as the classics by Astrid Lindgren, to successful youth audiobooks, including the international bestseller series "The Hunger Games", to emotional stories in the New Adult genre. New to the program is also our imprint Oetinger Crime, with which we publish captivating crime audiobooks for adults. Our productions are regularly awarded and stand for craftsmanship, artistic standards, and a spirit of innovation.

Your tasks as a new crew member

  • Independent technical support for audiobook recordings
  • Recording direction
  • Participation in setting up and further developing a small in-house studio
  • Recording, editing, mixing, and mastering of voice recordings
  • Sound design for selected productions
  • Complete technical implementation – from recording to final file delivery
  • Communication and coordination with speakers, producers, directors, and, if necessary, various publishing departments
  • Structured archiving and management of audio data
  • Support for sound and event technology
  • Independent implementation of all tasks in close consultation with the team

What you bring

  • Completed training as a sound engineer, audio engineer, or comparable qualification
  • Experience in voice recordings in the field of audiobooks and radio plays, podcast desirable
  • Active interest in the integration of new technologies, especially AI-supported tools
  • Sound knowledge in editing, mixing, and mastering speech
  • Careful, structured way of working and a good ear for language
  • Strong communication skills and enjoyment of collaborative project work
  • No fear of contact in dealing with innovative software or producing innovative media and projects
  • A good sense for the balance between high quality standards in detail and a pragmatic, resource-conscious approach to time and production reality
  • Affinity for music is welcome, but not a prerequisite
