Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Editorial leader to lead the content development and audience engagement strategy of our Springer Medical Education platform. In this role you will be a key decision maker in all editorial matters, guiding content development and managing the content development team. You will collaborate with senior colleagues from marketing, analytics, commercial, and technical development teams. Your focus will be on developing high-quality scientific educational content programs that meet the needs of healthcare professionals across Europe and beyond, while understanding commercial drivers.
Must Have
- Medical/Scientific background (MD, advanced degree in medicine/bioscience, or equivalent)
- Experience in team management
- Experience in scientific/clinical content development
- Experience in providing Medical Education content and services
- Fluent in English
- Ability to interact professionally with medical experts
- Understanding of SEO and social media editorial/technical factors

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Editorial leader to lead the content development and audience engagement strategy of our Springer Medical Education platform
In this role you will be key decision maker in all editorial matters, and you will be pivotal in guiding the development of content on the platform as well as managing and mentoring the content development team.
Your peers will be senior colleagues from marketing, analytics, commercial, and technical development teams with whom you will collaborate extensively.
Your focus will be on the continual development of high quality scientific educational content programs that meet the educational and developmental needs of busy healthcare professionals across Europe and beyond.
You will be our key thought leader in understanding the needs of Springer Medicine’s user communities and you will lead the development and delivery of content strategies and partnerships to meet those needs, whilst having a keen understanding of the commercial drivers that underpin the product.
Additionally, you will oversee the work from Medwire News and work to evolve that offering to serve the wider audience with Springer Health+.
Role Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Activities
- Lead the strategic and tactical development of the platform content.
- Work in consultation with editorial and commercial teams to ensure the content strategy for the platform meets the needs of all stakeholders, both internally and externally, and to agreed standards
- Oversee content managers, who are responsible for curating and commissioning content for the platform
- Work with Editorial colleagues to:
- create content and resourcing plans to ensure that content drives online engagement and user activity
- plan events and webinars, including sourcing of external expert participants and agreement of agendas
- identify and engage with 3rd-party organizations/societies to create new content relationships and opportunities
- Work with sales teams to maximize business opportunities, ensuring appropriate independence and balance
- Understand key performance indicators and utilize data to make decisions related to content strategy and enhance user features
- Monitor the clinical utility of the content provided, maximizing opportunities to learn from end users to continually improve quality of the content
General Activities
- Oversee the content strategy for Springer Medicine in the short, medium and long term.
- Lead and mentor team members in their understanding of how to use data to guide the development of content to ensure maximum discoverability
- Work with the Analytics and Data teams to build dashboards to help all stakeholders in editorial, digital and sales
- Work with the Head of Product and other key stakeholders in Springer Health+ and Springer Medizin to establish robust business cases for the development of new digital products and services
- Track key trends in the delivery of online medical education to ensure that our products and services remain relevant and to support innovation in new areas
- Help monitor our competitors to ensure the continued relevance of our products in all aspects
- Collaborate with marketing to grow our audience, maximise content marketing and engagement, including with external events such as congress booths, leaflets, outreach proposals
- Act as an ambassador for Springer Medicine (e.g. at live events)
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Medical/Scientific background such as Medical Doctor, advanced degree in medicine/bioscience, or equivalent experience
- Experience in team management and scientific/clinical content development
- Experience in the provision of Medical Education content and services
- Fluent in English, with further European languages an advantage
- Ability to interact on a professional level with medical experts
- Understanding of editorial and technical factors around SEO and social media
- Encourages innovation and creative solutions to educational needs
- Committed, interested and creative, with proven ability to work within a team
- Keeps abreast of the emergence of important medical topics
- Ready to learn and develop a good understanding of technical processes around a content platform
- Ability to represent the platform and company values internally and externally
