Job Summary

The Field Engineer at Motorola Solutions provides technical support for specialized systems and product applications, including troubleshooting software-driven electronics, provisioning communication system infrastructure, and optimizing RF and Broadband architecture. This remote role involves significant travel (75%+) within Nebraska, Kansas, or Iowa, focusing on programming, configuring, testing, and documenting complex communication systems, as well as performing preventative maintenance and developing solutions for technical problems.

Must Have

  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications.
  • Troubleshoot software driven electronics.
  • Provision communication system infrastructure.
  • Optimize RF and Broadband architecture (legacy analog, advanced digital P25, data infrastructure).
  • Program, configure, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines.
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems.
  • Strong knowledge of wired communications systems (LAN, WAN).
  • Proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, bridges).
  • Capable of installation of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot system/application related issues.
  • Knowledge of R.F. systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks).
  • Skills in the use of various communications test equipment.
  • Knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
  • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.
  • 4+ years of technical or engineering experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely.

Good to Have

  • Experience with optimization and support of complex communication systems.
  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and/or networking equipment.
  • Unique combinations of both multi-site RF communications system and/or computer/networking skills.
  • Experience with MCC7500, MCC7100 Consoles.
  • Experience with Channel Banks and T1 Circuits.
  • Experience with Computer IP Networks and Configuration.
  • Experience working with RF Infrastructure Technologies.

Job Description

This is a remote position with travel (75%+) to support projects. The candidate must reside in Nebraska, Kansas or Iowa.

Overview:

  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.
  • Program, configure, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.
  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

Duties may also include:

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades or support issues

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must have strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.
  • Must be capable of installation of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.
  • Must have knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks
  • Must have skills in the use of various communications test equipment
  • Must have knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet switching techniques
  • Must be highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
  • Must have strong self-management skills and communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated and self-managed
  • Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations
