Job Description

This role involves instructing Initial Flight Training - Rotary Wing students in subjects like Theory of Rotary Wing Flight, Navigation, Aviation Weather, and Instruments. Responsibilities include planning and delivering instruction, maintaining current lesson plans, administering and grading examinations, and providing extra help to students. The instructor must ensure all training materials and equipment are current and sufficient. This position requires a CFII or FAA AGI/IGI certificates, at least three years of general aviation experience, and strong computer literacy for presentations and data input.

  • Possess a current CFII (having taught ground school within the past two years), or FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) certificates/ratings.
  • At least three years of general aviation experience.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet data input, visual presentations, database input, accessing electronic publications, filling out electronic forms and grade sheets.
  • Complete or have completed the Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course satisfactorily in the last five years.
  • Instruct and plan instructional efforts for assigned flight related subjects within applicable POI and Syllabus.
  • Ensure continuation of research to keep lesson plans and training materials current.
  • Prepare, update, administer, grade, record, and critique examinations.
  • Prepare, update, and present lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Provide extra instruction for deficient students.
  • Assure training materials, aids, and equipment are maintained, current, and sufficient.

Job Description

  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill to effectively teach Initial Flight Training - Rotary Wing students in a combination of the following subjects: Theory of Rotary Wing Flight, Flight Support subjects, Navigation, Aviation Weather and Basic/Advanced Instruments.
  • Prior to hire, applicants will be evaluated on a demonstration of proficiency class presentation made to the Academics Division Director and his representatives.
  • Applicant must possess a current CFII (having taught ground school within the past two years), or the FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) certificates.
  • Must have at least three years of general aviation experience.
  • Must be computer literate in the use of word processing, spreadsheet data input, and visual presentations.

Essential Responsibilities are as shown below:

  • Instructs and plans the instructional efforts for all assigned flight related subjects within the applicable POI and Syllabus of Instruction in accordance with applicable regulations, directives, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the continuation of research necessary to keep all assigned subject area lesson plans and training materials current in content, format and media.
  • Prepares, updates, administers, grades, records and critiques the examinations within the assigned instructional areas in accordance with instructions.
  • Prepares, updates and presents all Lesson Plans and other instructional materials, to include computer presentations used in assigned subject areas in accordance with Company and government requirements.
  • Provides extra instruction for deficient students who request help.
  • Assures that all training materials, training aids, and equipment used within assigned instructional areas are maintained, backed-up as appropriate, current and in sufficient quantities for the most efficient use.
  • Advises supervisor of needed supplies, materials and training aids as far in advance of required dates as possible.
  • Provides information and data for reports as requested by the supervisor.

PWS Requirements:

1.2.2.1.9 Academics / Ground Training. The Contractor shall provide the instructors, facilities, and equipment necessary to instruct the all portions of the IFT-R program. The Contractor shall develop academic courseware/curriculums to support the IFT-R syllabus and submit the courseware/curriculums for approval IAW Appendix 4. The Contractor shall review courseware/curriculums annually or when changes are needed and update as required. The Contractor shall submit any courseware/curriculums changes for COR approval. The Contractor shall modify academic courseware/curriculums to match future changes made to the IFT-R syllabus and to improve ground training. Only CFIs, CFIIs or FAA-rated ground instructors may instruct academics. The Contractor shall provide feedback to instructors to ensure high quality ground training.

Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill to effectively teach Initial Entry Rotary Wing students in a combination of the following subjects: Theory of Rotary Wing Flight, Flight Support subjects, Navigation, Aviation Weather and Basic/Advanced Instruments. Prior to hire, applicants will be evaluated on a demonstration of proficiency class presentation made to the Academics Division Director and his representatives. Applicant must possess the FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) Ratings prior to hire. Must have at least three years of general aviation experience. Must be fundamentally computer literate to include (but not limited to) the use of performing word processing, performing database input, accessing electronic publications, filling out electronic forms and grade sheets, and visual presentations. Once hired, the successful candidate must complete or have completed the Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course satisfactorily in the last five years. Academic classroom facilitation skills are normally taught during the CFD-IC.

Assures that all training materials, training aids, and equipment used within assigned instructional areas are maintained, backed-up as appropriate, current and in sufficient quantities for the most efficient use as required. Advises supervisor of needed supplies, materials, and training aids as far in advance of required dates as possible. Provides information and data for reports as requested by the supervisor. Perform all other position related duties as assigned by the director.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards and occasional lifting to 35 pounds. Constant sitting while using the computer terminal, ability to stand for extended periods of up to one hour and constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents. Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Must possess planning/organizational skills and must be able to work within time constraints and adapt to changing technologies.

Highly Desired:

Prior experience as rotary wing or fixed wing aircraft pilot.

Army CFD-IC vs. Air Force BIC/AIC:

The Air Force equivalent to the Army's Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD-IC) is the Basic Instructor Course (BIC) or the Academic Instructor Course (AIC). These courses are designed to train Air Force service members in the principles of adult learning, instructional techniques, curriculum development, and assessment, preparing them to serve as instructors in various Air Force educational and training environments.

While both the Army's CFD-IC and the Air Force's instructor courses share the common goal of developing effective military instructors, there might be slight variations in course content and emphasis based on the specific needs and contexts of each service.
