Description

As an Intermediate Character Artist, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality assets andbmaterials, along with helping to maintain the quality bar of the studio.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have an understanding of characters, creatures and props art creation, strong anatomical knowledge of animals and humanoids, a solid understanding of current AAA-quality art and pipelines, strong communication skills and passion for game development.

Responsibilities

● Assist in the creation of exceptional characters, creatures, outfits and props, following the artistic and technical guidelines, graphic style, theme and other visual requirements.

● Ability to understand and follow complex documentation.

● Search for more detailed and specific graphic references for the characters.

● Work closely with the Art Manager to ensure the visual target is always exceeded and stylistically consistent.

● Have independence when it comes to following guidelines, estimating and completing your own tasks.

● Ensure that assets and artwork are optimised in regard to performance and best practices for the desired target platforms while retaining artistic integrity.

● Adaptable knowledge of modelling and texturing techniques. General understanding of organic, realistic/stylised and hard surface modelling.

● Advise management in a timely manner of any issues which may impact project schedules.

● Be willing to perform any other duties, functions, and responsibilities required by the project or the studio, assigned to you by the Art Manager, Principal Art Manager, Head of Art and Production team, faithfully, diligently, efficiently and to the best of your abilities.

● Provide art materials made within the studio for the company's, website, portfolio and demo reel for marketing needs.

● Collaborate and participate in any necessary meetings, team or activities related to the studio and the project assigned.

● Regularly review, verify and update the status of assigned tasks and workload.

Requirements

● At least 2-4 years of professional experience as a 3D Artist.

● Strong experience in modelling, texturing and optimising characters, creatures, outfits and props for AAA video games.

● Credited in at least one published AAA game title for creating characters, creatures, cloths or organic assets.

● Knowledge of leading software within the video game industry, like 3Ds Max, Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Marmoset, Photoshop, Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer, etc.

● Good knowledge of retopology.

● Knowledge of characters, creatures and props art creation, including modelling, mapping, texturing, and gameplay-related setups. Thorough knowledge of the process of baking and authoring textures for physical-based rendering (PBR), and working with different material pipelines (material layering, advanced shaders, etc.).

● Experience working with scans, reconstruction, clean up, optimisation, etc.

● Understanding of form, colour, shape and composition theory.

● Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 and character integration pipelines, performance and optimisation techniques: layering materials, UDIMs, atlas textures, etc.

● Exhibit initiative, be proactive, ask questions, and clearly report improvements and possible issues to the Art Manager.

● Able to autonomously follow guidelines and execute tasks within a given timeframe.

● Able to accurately and efficiently perform task breakdowns and estimations for scheduling when required.

● Ability to render final art creatively.

● Strong eye for composition.

● Structured workflow habits, and ability to consistently meet deadlines.

● Persistence, drive, and self-motivation. Positive, creative, and fearless attitude, with a willingness to push boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and openly express opinions.

● Excellent communication and organisational skills.

● Team-oriented and collaborative mindset. willing to share knowledge and learn from colleagues.

● Skills in estimating and organising art tasks during the planning process.

● Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish.

Desired Requirements

● Passion for sci-fi visual design.

● Strong foundation in traditional art.

● Strong artistic skills in 2D.

● Experience with Unity or other engines.

● Substance Designer knowledge.

● Familiarity with repository software such as Perforce, Plastic SCM, Github, etc.
