Thales is a global leader in high technologies specializing in three sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.
Come discover the Moirans site, a human-sized site with a beautiful environment. Coming to work in Moirans means: a friendly and warm atmosphere, interesting engineering projects, mountains nearby.
CONTEXT:
The objective of this internship, with possible continuation as a thesis, is to propose algorithmic solutions allowing the alignment of information from X-ray tomosynthesis with the needs of the operating room. The work will include exploring artificial intelligence methods and integrating data from a pre-operative scanner. The limits of these algorithms — for example, the risks of hallucinations and reconstruction time — will be studied, and the algorithms will be adapted to meet the constraints of the operating room. The project will also include the design of a test protocol on the BOPTECH platform, evaluation on human livers perfused under physiological conditions on a machine, as well as the comparison of tomosynthesis data with those of a CBCT (Cone Beam CT).
YOUR MISSIONS ARE:
1. Identification of use cases and clinical needs.
Detailed study and characterization of operating room constraints in terms of image quality and appearance, usage flexibility, and speed of 3D volume display.
2. Collection of medical data.
Design and launch of a protocol for retrieving reference images adapted to use cases from the BOPA chair and Paul-Brousse hospital (AP-HP).
3. Determination of system parameters.
Definition of geometric constraints, source characteristics, acquisition times, and expected detector performance.
4. Algorithmic state of the art.
Inventory of existing deterministic and probabilistic methods and establishment of a development plan for innovative algorithms better adapted to clinical needs.
5. Algorithmic development.
Constitution of adapted databases, training of reference and innovative probabilistic algorithms, and parameterization of reference deterministic algorithms and new developments.
6. Performance tests in simulation.
Use of the Thales digital X-ray simulation solution to evaluate the performance of algorithms and their suitability for the needs of healthcare personnel.
7. Experimental tests.
Use of the Thales experimental bench for capturing X-ray images representative of the problem and evaluating algorithms on these datasets.
