Job Description

Machine Learning System Engineer F/H

Let's build a future of trust together

Thales is a global high-tech leader specializing in three business sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Success driven by our technological excellence, your experience, and our shared ambition
  • An attractive compensation package
  • Continuous skill development: training courses, internal academies, and communities
  • An inclusive, benevolent environment respecting employee balance
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment

Your daily life

Located 20 minutes from the Paris-Saclay technology hub, the site is one of the largest centers of excellence for surface radars. We contribute to developing, designing, integrating, and testing air surveillance radars dedicated to target detection and identification.

As a Machine Learning System Engineer at Thales, you will be involved in a very dynamic environment as part of the development of Ground Master Radars (GMR), complex projects with high technical value within a motivated and welcoming team. Technically, you will contribute to the detailed functional analysis of the Radar system, particularly taking into account client needs and other stakeholders.

Furthermore, you will need to demonstrate your ability to communicate in this type of context (diplomacy, ability to convince, non-hierarchical management, etc.).

In this capacity, during the specification phase, you will be responsible for the following aspects:

  • Define the functional characteristics of the radar (energy balance, sequencing, algorithmic definition of processing, especially AI-based) meeting the desired operational performance requirements.
  • Perform analyses and evaluations to support design justification, using analytical calculations or simulations with functional behavior models.
  • Propose system evolutions by prototyping algorithmic treatments, particularly those based on artificial intelligence, which are appearing in radar processing chains.
  • Produce the appropriate documentation for system and sub-system specifications to enable implementation by the trades.

During the system validation phase, you will need to:

  • Provide your expertise to the integration teams by identifying and resolving problems reported by them.
  • Perform functional analyses on simulated or recorded radar data following field tests (possibly by re-executing processing algorithms), developing your own analysis tools as needed.

Your profile

With a Bac+5 higher education (engineering school or university), you have acquired solid skills in signal processing, probability, mathematical models, and algorithms, as well as knowledge in electronics and software.

You also have skills and/or experience in AI-based algorithms.

You have a taste for investigations and conducting inquiries to understand and trace the origin of problems.

Furthermore, you have an appetite for systems engineering, methodology, and associated tools: requirements and test management, system modeling, high-level simulation & modeling (Matlab); configuration management.

You know how to and enjoy working in a team, you demonstrate good interpersonal skills and autonomy.

Ideally, you have initial experience in the field of complex systems engineering, preferably in the radar domain.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
