Job Summary

Frima, a recognized top employer in the Canadian video game industry, is seeking a Lead Game Designer to elevate its design team. This role involves defining technical and conceptual approaches, leading a multidisciplinary team, ensuring quality and adherence to deadlines, and collaborating with partners. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit, contributing to the development of engaging video games.

Must Have

  • Determine the most appropriate technical and conceptual means to achieve the project vision while respecting production constraints.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings with the team to monitor progress, anticipate risks, and validate adherence to deadlines.
  • Monitor the evolution of deliverables and ensure that quality, consistency, playability, and schedule standards are met.
  • Actively participate in the design and development of video games in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with the Design Director (core team) to ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Mobilize, supervise, and support the direct team by providing continuous feedback and coaching.
  • Develop a trusting relationship with partners and act as the main point of contact.
  • Develop and share best design practices with other leads and management.
  • Participate in improving design processes to optimize efficiency and creativity.
  • Bachelor's degree in video game design or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in game design.
  • Experience in team leadership.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine.
  • Good experience on mobile platforms.
  • Excellent command of French and English (written and oral).

Good to Have

  • Experience on a third-person shooter game.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, strong initiative, and ability to proactively advance topics.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with ease in co-development.
  • Demonstrated curiosity for new technologies, market trends, and best design practices, with a willingness to experiment and innovate.
  • Ability to travel outside the country if needed.

Qualifications

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in video game design or other job-related diploma combined with equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in game design;
  • Experience in team leadership;
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine;
  • Good experience on mobile;
  • Experience on a third-person shooter game, an asset;
  • Ability to travel outside the country if needed.
  • Excellent command of French and English (written and oral). English skills are required for the work as we collaborate with English-speaking partners.
