Job Summary
CAE is seeking an MQ-9B Instructor Pilot to join the Canadian Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Operational Training Unit (OTU) in Ottawa. This full-time role involves delivering joint Pilot and Sensor Operator MQ-9B courses, providing Pilot subject matter expertise for the Mission Intelligence Coordinator course, and conducting synthetic training using complex simulators. The instructor will also compile student progress reports, contribute to courseware development, and ensure training consistency with objectives and standards. The position requires strong instructional delivery skills and collaboration with aircrew experts to shape the next generation of Royal Canadian Air Force aircrew.
Must Have
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience writing and amending multi-media instructional courseware
- Familiarity with quality standards, training plans, and training media
- Eligibility to work in Canada and obtain NATO SECRET security clearance
- Physical ability for instructional tasks in live and synthetic settings
- Previous experience as a Pilot Instructor on an MQ series platform
- Formal training in Instructional Techniques
- Manned aircraft Instrument rating
- Launch and Recovery experience
- Close Air Support experience
- Kinetic effects delivery experience
- Maritime Domain experience
- Link-16 experience
Good to Have
- Exposure to Signals intelligence
- Exposure to Automatic Identification System (AIS)
- Experience as a Standard Unit or Central Flying School member
- Over 300 formal instructional hours
- Non-RPAS military aviation experience

We need you to complete our team as part of the Canadian Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Operational Training Unit (OTU) instructor cadre. This is a full-time position. The target timeframe for interviewing candidates is Fall 2024 with a start date early 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivery of the joint Pilot and Sensor Operator (SO) MQ-9B course incorporating theory, synthetic and live phases.
- Provide Pilot subject matter expertise (SME) support to the Mission Intelligence Coordinator (MIC) course.
- Provide oral and written SME to other members of the Mission Crew cadre.
- Ensure delivered training is consistent with training objectives and teaching points in the training plan, per applicable training standards.
- Delivery of synthetic training using complex simulators and scenario generation systems.
- Compiling student sortie progress, and course debrief reports.
- Reporting instructional issues and deficiencies relative to the course delivery.
- Work autonomously to tackle a broad scope of requirements for aircrew student and customer representatives.
- Effectively deliver oral presentations to aircrew students, customers representatives and management.
- Work independently towards a team goal.
- Contribute to development of courseware and teaching aids.
- Liaise and contribute to student course scheduling.
- Perform occasional travel in support of the project.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with writing and amending multi-media instructional courseware.
- Familiar with quality standards, training plans, and training media used to ensure teaching points are met per Training Standards.
- Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or on a valid Work Permit.
- Capable of obtaining and maintaining both Controlled Goods and a Government of Canada NATO SECRET security clearance.
- Physically able to perform all instructional tasks in a live and synthetic setting.
- Previous experience as a Pilot Instructor on an MQ series platform.
- Formal training in Instructional Techniques.
- Manned aircraft Instrument rating.
- Launch and Recovery experience.
- Close Air Support experience.
- Kinetic effects delivery experience.
- Maritime Domain experience. Link-16 experience.
Preferred Skills
