Job Description

The Navy SUA FST Manager will lead a technical field team in planning and executing ASTRO system upgrades for the Navy ELMR system, the largest and most complex ASTRO system globally. This role involves developing migration plans, collaborating with vendors for customized testing, and ensuring flawless production deployment. The manager will also recruit, train, and oversee the team, ensuring adherence to technical standards, cybersecurity compliance (DoD, DON, STIGs), and service delivery management for critical communications systems.
Must Have:
  • Recruit, manage, and train the Navy SUA FST Team.
  • Lead technical field team for ASTRO system upgrades.
  • Ensure ELMR system upgrades comply with contract requirements and MSI technical standards.
  • Enforce DoD and DON security mandates, including STIGs.
  • Manage IT service delivery for ELMR system upgrades per SLAs.
  • Communicate extensively with stakeholders, PMs, technicians, and engineers.
  • Provide technical support to SUA Project Manager.
  • Identify and recommend solutions for potential project issues.
  • Collaborate with SUA PM on strategy implications.
  • US Citizen with ability to obtain DoD Secret-level clearance.
  • Obtain CompTIA Security+ or CISSP certification within 12 months.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with Motorola ASTRO technology.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of technologists.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Passport and International Drivers Permit.

As a System Upgrade Agreement (SUA) Field Service Technician (FST) Manager, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements in both the Presale, Post Sale, and sustainment/life cycle phases of a project. These applications span the entire breadth of the U.S. Federal Government throughout the world.

Job Description

  • The Navy ELMR system is the largest and most complex ASTRO system globally. The Navy SUA (System Upgrade Agreement) FST (Field Service Technician) Manager will work closely with the SUA PM and other SUA FSTs to develop migration plans for upcoming Navy ELMR SUA deployments.
  • Navy ELMR SUAs present unique challenges due to extensive customizations across the enterprise, necessitating customized testing in a lab environment. The Navy SUA FST Manager will collaborate with Upgrade Operations and third-party vendors to develop and execute strategies and test plans, ensuring flawless production deployment performance.
  • The Navy SUA FST Manager will also drive the creation of processes, tests, and documentation for use in the production environment.

Key Responsibilities of the Navy SUA FST Manager:

  • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, manage, and provide technical training to the Navy SUA FST Team, ensuring they meet the technical and deliverable standards outlined in the government contract's Performance Work Statement (PWS) for sustainment and upgrades.
  • Project Leadership for Navy SUA Upgrades: Lead the technical field team in planning and executing ASTRO system upgrades, ensuring successful completion. This role requires an experienced manager due to the unique nature of the US Navy ELMR system.
  • Technical Resource Oversight: Direct the team's work on critical Navy ELMR communications systems, ensuring all system upgrades, expansions, and improvements comply with contract requirements and MSI technical standards. Monitor projects to ensure they are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance Enforcement: Ensure strict adherence to all Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Navy (DON) security mandates, including STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides), to protect sensitive government information.
  • Service Delivery Management: Manage the delivery of IT services in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), ensuring reliable, on-schedule, and on-budget ELMR system upgrades.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain extensive verbal and written communication with stakeholders, Project Managers, technicians, and engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support to the SUA Project Manager, including presenting plans and answering customer questions.
  • Identify potential issues that could affect quality, cost, or timeframe and recommend solutions to mitigate impact.
  • Promote and foster a positive culture and environment within the training support team.
  • Collaborate with the SUA PM to assess the implications of various strategies.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a US Citizen and willing and able to obtain DoD Secret-level clearance.
  • Must be capable of obtaining an acceptable adjudication of DOD Secret (T3) Clearance within 18 months of initial employment date
  • Complete standard form SF86 questionnaire and fingerprinting for national security positions
  • Must obtain either a CompTIA Security+ or CISSP certification within first 12 months of employment
  • 3 years of hands-on experience with Motorola ASTRO technology, including Zone Core, ASTRO Networking, Microsoft Active Directory, McAfee security suite, MCC7500 dispatch, and NICE Logging.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of technologists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent responsibilities with varying priorities, shifting focus with minimal loss of productivity or work quality.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel/Location:

  • Travel to various lab environments, customer meetings, and deployment sites. Travel may be up to 50% at times, depending on project cycles.
  • Travel internationally and domestically up to 50% of the time is required
  • This position is remote and can be performed from most continental US states. Any residence relocation or long-term home office location requires management and MSI HR approval.
  • A permanent residence based 60 miles or less from a mid to large class International Airport is required.
  • Ability to obtain/hold a U.S. Passport, International Drivers Permit, and the ability to legally drive and rent a vehicle as needed.

Target Base Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by our government contracts.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
