Job Description
Company:
Qualcomm Technologies International Ltd
Job Area:
Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Hardware Engineering
General Summary:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The VI team are looking for an adaptable, enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our team of skilled engineers in Cambridge. The Team plays a pivotal role in the transfer to production of the company’s Mobile, Voice and Music & IoT products, from the moment when the first pre-production samples are received until devices are first shipped to customers. During this time, the RF Characterisation team is at the centre of an ongoing process to optimize and fully validate the performance of the devices. This work is done in conjunction with colleagues across a variety of teams both in the UK and overseas. Working within our team provides a unique opportunity to work across the engineering disciplines from high level software to low-level hardware. This is enabled, in addition to the work on Qualcomm’s products, by the fact that the team also actively develops its own in-house automation infrastructure in collaboration with other teams.
The group consists of multi-disciplined (RF, Analogue, Software and Digital) engineers who work closely with specialist design and systems engineers. This broad base of knowledge is deployed to provide optimal tuning and configuration solutions for radio operation. The role is predominantly lab-based working at circuit, cell, subsystem and system level.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will be responsible to evaluate, characterize and develop the design implementation solution for leading-edge products in the most advanced processes. Interfaces with various cross functional teams (RF, Analog and Digital IC designers, Software, System Engineering, Test Engineers, Customer Engineering, and Operations) to drive and incorporate the latest design solutions in the production program to improve yield, productivity, and quality.
- The Engineer will be assigned to a project and be responsible for the performance and operation of the radio, to include digits, firmware and analogue/RF. This involves interfacing directly with analogue and digital designers, systems engineers and radio control FW engineers to provide a complete radio system solution for verification and validation in characterization over temperature and process skews.
- The Engineer is also expected to work on digital emulator platforms, essential knowledge of digital design flow, ability to read and debug RTL code.
- Troubleshoots advanced issues with radio designs and finds solutions that are documented and shared with internal cross functional teams working on similar products.
- The Engineer will be responsible for automation for development and validation of ASIC products generating Python test scripts, writing embedded C code for FW radio control, supporting the business group with radio training materials and investigating customer issues and product returns where required.
- Manages project-related activities (e.g., meetings, documentation, deliverables) between their team and other teams working on the same or similar products, operating across locations and time zones.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 1+ year of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
- 2+ years experience with circuit design (e.g., digital, analog, RF).
- 2+ years experience utilizing schematic capture and circuit simulation software.
- 2+ years experience with hardware design and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools, etc.
- 1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.
- Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.
- Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).
- Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.
- Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
