Job Summary

DNEG is seeking a Senior Environment Generalist TD to create spectacular photorealistic environments for high-calibre feature film projects. This role involves collaborating within a global team to alter and extend live-action plates or design, compose, and render environments from scratch. Artists will utilize Digital Matte Painting, 2.5D, and procedural/manual 3D approaches, making artistic and technical decisions in modelling, sculpting, texturing, look development, layout, lighting, and re-projection.

Must Have

  • Minimum 6 years VFX industry experience on high-end live-action feature films.
  • Experience in environment modelling, sculpting, texturing, layout, lighting, rendering, and digital matte painting.
  • Good understanding of photography, artistic composition, and cinematography.
  • Thorough understanding of 3D and 2.5D VFX processes and production pipelines.
  • Experience with Houdini, Maya, Zbrush, Substance/Mari, SpeedTree, Gaea, and Nuke.
  • Experience using or creating procedural workflows for buildings, cities, vegetation, ecosystems, terrain, cliffs or debris.
  • Knowledge of the natural world (geology, geography, meteorology) and architecture (design, engineering).
  • Experience working with shoot data including photographic, reference, HDRIs, photogrammetry, and Lidar.
  • A showreel demonstrating realistic environment creation for motion pictures.

Good to Have

  • Experience rendering in Houdini Solaris.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, real-time rendering.

Environment Generalist TDs at DNEG are passionate about collaborating and problem solving to create and compose spectacular photorealistic environments on our highest calibre feature film projects.

Our environment artists work within a global, supportive and multi-talented team altering and extending environments in live action plates or designing, composing and rendering environments from the smallest blade of grass to entire galaxies. They need excellent communication skills to collaborate and interact with multiple departments and colleagues around the world, ensuring their artistic and technical solutions integrate with the rest of the pipeline.

Based on the requirements of each production we devise efficient and creative approaches to produce our environments using Digital Matte Painting, 2.5D and manual or procedural 3D approaches where appropriate.

Supported by your team, you will be able to utilize and develop your diverse skill set. Your tasks may include modelling, sculpting, texturing, look development, layout, lighting and re-projection and require you to make artistic and technical decisions on a day-to-day basis.
