PayPay, a fintech company with over 70 million users, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Financial Strategy Division. The engineer will be responsible for productizing ML solutions, defining software and ML system quality requirements, and fostering a strong developer culture to enhance efficiency and quality across projects. Good To Have:

About the Work

Introduction to PayPay's Financial Strategy Division

This is the execution unit responsible for achieving the company-wide mission of making PayPay the No.1 Fintech company by creating all money-related use cases on the PayPay app (in addition to "spending," this includes "saving," "increasing," "borrowing," "preparing," and "managing"). We will also invent UI/UX for smartphone-first financial services. The team consists of members with diverse experiences, skills, and perspectives, such as those with experience in new business development at major financial institutions, those involved in new businesses overseas, and those with expertise in data. We want to work with people who have a strong passion for improving existing financial services.

  • Organizational structure: The current Financial Strategy Division consists of about 50 members, ranging from their late 20s to late 40s. The department also includes nearly 10 data analysts and data scientists.

Background of Recruitment

This is because AI technology will inevitably play a central role in providing better financial experiences to all users in the future.

An example of a past project utilizing machine learning technology is "PayPay Funding," which launched on March 26, 2024. Moving forward, we will continue to provide better, new financial experiences by utilizing AI and data-related technologies.

However, when using AI technology at the core of mission-critical systems, many requirements are demanded of AI systems. In addition to meeting business requirements and demonstrating high performance in machine learning tasks, high reliability is required for systems that handle "money" and "user data." In particular, ensuring the reliability of highly uncertain AI systems is a challenging task. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about establishing and maturing an AI and data utilization platform that supports new financial businesses, including the practice of MLOps.

  • The initial department will be the "Financial Strategy Division," and we expect you to be active there first, but subsequent career paths will be considered according to your wishes.

Specific Job Responsibilities

As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a role in accelerating the development of financial services at PayPay and its group companies by utilizing AI and machine learning technologies. (Equivalent to Tech Lead)

  • You will develop financial services utilizing machine learning in collaboration with internal engineers and data scientists. You will participate from the initial phase of business requirements definition and prototyping (e.g., using Jupyter) and smoothly advance the project from a machine learning engineer's perspective towards the full development phase for productization.
  • You will define software requirements for solving business problems and quality requirements specific to machine learning systems, and determine team development policies.
  • You will proactively promote developer culture necessary for efficiency and quality improvement, such as code reviews and testing, and embed it within the team and the entire company. Furthermore, you will actively work to continuously enhance the maturity of MLOps at PayPay, not limited to a single project or team activity.

  • Super Flex System (no core time)
  • Principle: 9:00 AM - 5:45 PM (7 hours 45 minutes actual work + 1 hour break)
