Job Description

The Sr. Field Service Technician will optimize and support complex communication systems, providing technical expertise in software-driven electronics, RF, and broadband architecture. Responsibilities include programming, configuring, and troubleshooting communication systems, as well as managing wired and wireless networks. The role requires strong computer literacy, problem-solving skills, and collaboration with various teams to implement and maintain advanced communication solutions for government and public safety clients. Travel is required.

Must Have:

  • Strong knowledge of wired communication systems (LAN, WAN).
  • Proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, bridges).
  • Capable of installing and troubleshooting server hardware/OS and software infrastructure.
  • Develop solutions for difficult technical problems.
  • Familiarity with latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Collaborate with System Technologist, Engineering, Project Management, and Sales.
  • Bilingual French/English.
  • 3+ years experience in LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering or Networking equipment.

Job Description

The Sr. Field Service Technician must be a Canadian citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance(s) as required by government contracts.

  • Responsibilities include optimization and support of complex communication systems.
  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.
  • Program, configure, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.
  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
  • Provide a very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.
  • Capable of installation of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure, and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades or support issues.
  • Total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Team with System Technologist, Engineering, Project Management and Sales personnel to effectively design, implement, optimize and cutover advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge of IP networking, network design methodologies and troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS).
  • Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge of Server Environment, Linux, Windows Server, VMware, highly desirable.
  • Must be highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must have strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.
  • Must be capable of installation of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.
  • Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
  • Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless or broadband/LTE highly desirable.
  • Previous knowledge and experience working with some or all of Juniper, HP, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer(s).
  • Travel Percentage will be around 50%.
  • Bilingual French/English - Must be able to work also in English with our English-speaking clients, customers and partners outside Quebec, as well as, with the rest of the colleagues in Canada, the United States and in other international countries as applicable.

Basic Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Associates Degree and 3+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering or Networking equipment.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contracts.
