The College of Fine Arts & Humanities at Jacksonville University invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty. This position will include teaching one or more courses from the undergraduate Media Arts program. The successful candidate will possess an understanding of the critical, historical, and theoretical aspects of graphic and interactive design as well as an engagement in evolving practices in the field. The ideal candidate will be able to apply this understanding to different areas within interactive (UI) design, typography, graphic and communication design, motion graphics, user experience (UX) design, and application design across various courses in our Visual Design program.
The Department of Media Arts is a student-centered department housing degrees in Visual Design, Film, Animation, and Game Design. Work with existing faculty to develop and distribute course syllabi, conforming to the requirements set forth in the Faculty Handbook and those that may be established by the department chair.

Maintain weekly office hours. When classes are in session, part-time faculty are expected to be on campus at least one hour for each course taught to meet with students outside class. These meetings may take place immediately before or after class.

Maintain an accurate record of grades and submit midterm and final grades in a timely manner to the Registrar.

Work with colleagues within the Department on ways to improve course materials and teaching effectiveness. Evaluates teaching effectiveness through student ratings of course and instruction and self-evaluation.

Earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the discipline of Graphic Design, Visual Design, Communication Design, Interactive and/or User Experience Design, Motion Media or related fields.

Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in teaching the subject. In exceptional cases, outstanding professional experience and demonstrated contributions to the teaching discipline may be presented in lieu of formal academic preparation. Such cases must be justified by the institution on an individual basis.

Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with Jacksonville University’s academic policy.

Ability to work cooperatively with all constituents.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and knowledge of course content.
