Job Summary

Onward Search is seeking a Cloud Operations Manager for a hybrid, 3-month contract role in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This position involves leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, implementing automation best practices, and driving operational excellence across complex cloud ecosystems for a leading national life insurance and financial services company. The manager will develop long-term cloud strategies, optimize performance, monitor costs, and ensure security and compliance.

Must Have

  • Develop long-term cloud strategies aligned with organizational goals, including migration and modernization roadmaps.
  • Mentor, coach, and guide cloud operations teams.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) automation using Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Enforce cloud security best practices and ensure compliance with standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
  • Maintain 24/7 system availability through proactive monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Optimize application and infrastructure performance for high availability and low latency.
  • Monitor cloud spend and implement cost-optimization initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Identify and mitigate infrastructure vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technology operations with business needs.
  • Manage relationships with AWS and third-party vendors to enhance service delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years managing AWS environments and leading cloud-focused teams.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services, cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting (Python, Bash).
  • Proficiency with Jira and Excel (pivot tables, charts, VLOOKUPs).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Good to Have

  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer.
