Job Description

The Manager, Commissioning leads the execution of commissioning activities for hydrogen infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless transition from construction to full operation. This role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who can manage cross-functional teams, drive project success, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strong project management skills, and the ability to inspire and guide teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include overseeing planning, scheduling, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation, ensuring projects are on time and within budget, and providing technical leadership and mentorship.
Must Have:
  • Lead and manage commissioning teams across multiple hydrogen infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee all aspects of commissioning including planning, scheduling, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to commissioning specialists and field personnel.
  • Develop and implement standardized commissioning procedures and best practices.
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges during commissioning.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance and project excellence.
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities under pressure.
  • Promote collaboration across departments and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Build trust and credibility through transparent communication and consistent follow-through.
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities to team members.
  • Represent Plug Power professionally in all external interactions.
  • Champion Plug Power’s values and lead by example.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commissioning, field services, or hydrogen infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience with hydrogen and/or hydrogen fuel cell systems.
  • Proven experience with cryogenic and high-pressure systems (250 Bar and above), including pressure testing.
  • Proven experience with industrial gas processing and dispensing equipment.
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code (NFPA 70E, 70).
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read P&ID, EID, FID diagrams and create redline drawings.
  • Understanding of the construction process.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and work in diverse environments.

The Manager, Commissioning leads the execution of commissioning activities for hydrogen infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless transition from construction to full operation. This role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who can manage cross-functional teams, drive project success, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strong project management skills, and the ability to inspire and guide teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage commissioning teams across multiple hydrogen infrastructure projects, including GenFuel and GenEco
  • Oversee all aspects of commissioning including planning & scheduling, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to commissioning specialists and field personnel
  • Develop and implement standardized commissioning procedures and best practices
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges during commissioning
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing clear updates and managing expectations
  • Inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance and project excellence

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field) preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commissioning, field services, or hydrogen infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience with:
  • Hydrogen and/or hydrogen fuel cell systems
  • Cryogenic and high-pressure systems (250 Bar and above), including pressure testing
  • Industrial gas processing and dispensing equipment

Pay Rate:

$96,800.00 - $154,900.00
